Feel you. Spent lockdown upgrading kitchen and kitchen game. Sauce game in particular. I haven't made a roux in months... Memories of my mornay make me tear up...

Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to create flavorful dishes without butter, fats, etc. This post will self destruct in ...3, 2, 1.

Les, Noooo don’t self destruct 😂🤣

Yes. It just can't be EVERY DAY, which at least in my case was the genesis of the problem... Plus it's more fun to feed everybody indulgent foods, and to eat them yourself, when you are ripped. Makes em wonder...

Yes Jim you are right as always… thank you for caring. It was a beautiful day here, perfect for making some sinful meals. I never thought I would miss cooking though.

Embrace Asian cooking and stir fry. Lean on fish instead. If you've never really gotten into it before, it's the next, logical step. Besides - look how healthy and trim the general population of East Asian countries is! Emulate 🍍🍄🥦🍆

Ms Banana… the biggest culprit of my weight gain was, are you ready, Japanese cuisine! 🤣😂

I love taking recipes for favorite dishes and practicing lightening them up by adding veggies and making substitutions. Of course I love all the most fattening foods with extra cheese and butter and cream! But through experimentation and practice, I have broadened my tastes and my cooking skills! I feel like I eat so much better when I am on my program because, as I constantly tell my roommate, I am a great cook! It mostly takes planning and experimenting to find out what you like.

But the next time you make gumbo, may I come over???

Yes Jen, please do come 🤣😂 I’ll save extra for you!
I guess I didn’t express myself well. I was only missing the joy of cooking REAL food. It’s a huge loss and I’m grieving lol 🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂

Mermee, oh you get it… gumbo is an art in itself, and we must use butter!!!

I get it. It is an adjustment, for sure. I will be there with bells on!

Jen: 🔔🔔🔔🛎 thank you for understanding my poetry 😂😂😂😂

Mermee, I can totally relate (dehydrated carrots 🤣). I love reading and learning about American cooking; it’s diverse, rich, full of history, and just plain poetic! It also bonds people so firmly. I think it is beautiful.

Oh my gosh -- how does one gain weight eating Japanese food? Too much rice? [scratches head] Maybe too much sauce?

Ms B: yes you can, obesity is a problem there too. Japanese cuisine could be quite decadent!
