I've been experiencing indigestion quite a bit since I dropped down to 100g/day of net carbs, so I started eating fiber one granola bars and fruit snacks in the morning in hopes that the little bit of sugar in them wouldnt effect me much due to our high insulin resistance when we first wake up.

The indigestion went away completely but was replaced with some heavy water retention, why? too much HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) in the fiber one crap. Thats what I get for veering away from my normal pattern of clean eating.

Starting today I'm going back to steel cut oats with breakfast and post workout. As long as I maintain my deficit I wont have any issues leaning out.

I refuse to waste my money on fiber suppliments, 3g of fiber per serving at nearly $1/serving? I'll take my $3 container of 30 servings of steel cut oats at 4g of fiber and 5g of protein per serving TYVM.

I repeat NorthernMusician's quote:

A Scotsman and an Englishman were having breakfast together. The Englishman noticed the Scot was eating oats and made the comment, "You're eating oats? We feed oats to our horses." The Scotsman lifted another spoonful to his lips and said, "That's why Scotland is known for her men and England is known for her horses."

Indigestion is caused by the opposite of what most people think. it's a lack of stomach acid, not too much. Try 2 things, first, no carbonated drinks (cokes or mineral water) 1 hour before and 2 hours after meals. I basically have given them up completely. And second, when you eat, take a tablespoon of vinegar. I like apple cider, but they are all basically the same. They help increase stomach acid, which prevents food from sitting in your stomach so long, which is what causes most indigestion. If these 2 things were commonly practiced, the anti-acid pharmaceutical market would dry up. But, of course, follow the money to understand why this isn't common knowledge...

Pmjeff21, Thank you for the advice, I have balsalmic vinegar on my green veggies pretty much every day, and I don't drink any carbonated drinks AT ALL. I havent had a soda or any other sugary beverage since I started my journey 11 months ago, dropped all the pointless intake cold turkey. I'm on a high protein low carb diet currently, which is what causes my indigestion.

Consider Slippery Elm Lozenges. Most singers use them as they coat the throat but on the advice of my therapist, who has awful stomach issues, they're great for the gut. I also get slippery elm in powder form (yuck) but it does the job.

I suffered from indigestion for years and was on medication for at least 5 years. I got off my meds and stopped having indigestion when I stopped eating processed grains. Now if I cheat and eat some processed grains, I get indigestion. Steel cut oats do not bother me. Things like corn chips or bread will give me problems though. My theory is that some people can handle digesting only certain foods while other people are lucky and don’t have problems with anything. Keeping track of foods that cause you problems and limiting them worked for me.

If you like coconut, I recommend coconut butter, 5g of fiber in two tablespoons.
