For sK and Katsolo! The poor old thing is actually clean, it just has so much paint worn and chipped off that it is rusty.

RIP, dear "Beautiful Monster," you helped feed our family well for nearly 50 years. After decades of running and many repairs, you are now laid to rest. Thank you for your faithful service! May your successor be so well loved!

Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.

You could repurpose it as a dead weight during this next phase of lockdowns. 🤪

I cannot believe I found it! even if non functional, you could make it into a memory art piece like these. http://unamorecustomshoppe.com/categories/KitchenAid-Mixers/Custom-Painted-KitchenAid-Designs/

since you're not planning on fixing it, you could do a decoupage or something like that and then seal it.

Katsolo, you are brilliant! It would be perfectly balanced for goblet squats! Then I can thank that which helped make me fat for helping me not be fat. Win win! Those painted art pieces are hilarious! Many are actually so pretty! Can you imagine the cost? Incredible! I do paint! I could do this! 😂

Definitely was time for a DNR😆. I can't wait to see what else you make with your new beauty!💛

Oh yes, Chris, those beaters have had many a good licking throughout the years! When I was tiny, my mom made "Daddy cookies" Basically a homemade, soft granola, energy bar especially for my hard working papa. Of the many things I remember tasting off the mixer paddle, that was the best!

Thanks, Jenny, Diana, and aintgotaname! The tired old thing has taken its place on an honored shelf in the garage. It won't be tossed like a piece of junk. I will wait and see. Maybe I will try to get it professionally repaired for one of the kids when they decide a mixer is something they want. My stupid sentimental self... :)

If it works you can get a base from Kitchenaid. One is in my plans for this year. Mine is from the 1980's and still works like a dream. I also am ordering a new paddle and whip. my paddle has a bit of chipped enamel and one of the wires on the whip has been broken for probably 30 years.

It is awesome that you have had this jewel in your family. You could write its history and the stories behind them. It would be a great way to keep the family legacy connected between the generations.

Hahaha, PZOWIE! Or if it ran, it could be a mini cement mixer! Sadly, the old dear does not work anymore! Wholefoodnut, my dad got it for my mom before I was born! Best I can figure, it was 1970! Tahoebrun, That is a cool idea! When my son was working a crazy hard, physical job in the summer, I made my own version of those "Daddy cookies" for the grandson. My boy helped me come up with an altered recipe that was just want he liked. He took them every day to work like his grandpa did. :)

I think it's cool that you have had it in your family for so long. To have childhood memories of your Mother and you in the kitchen using it together is priceless.

sad when a good friend dies. Especially one that's helped you thru thick and thin, literally 😁
