DairyKing's Journal, 23 August 2013

Well, I'll just have to call this day a wash. I went a little over the RDI (1%) that I had set for myself. Fed the birds, fed the dogs. Didn't feel like running so aired up the tires on the Trek and rode pretty hard (for me) for 30 minutes instead. It's so humid that the sweat just pours off me. I've got to take the little doggie to the vet in the morning; he's just digging himself raw again. I don't think it's fleas; he gets one now and then, but never enough to account for this. He takes a pill for fleas and I treated him (too much actually) with a topical flea treatment. I think he's just allergic to the seasonal outdoors. When I get back from the Vet, I've got lots to do out in the gym. I'm probably going to take a couple days vacation next week to have a real long weekend to work on DW's cabinets again. In the meantime, I have to put up a pergola on the back patio. I've got three riding lawn mowers and a couple push mowers that are currently in various states of disrepair, and a couple motorcycles that need some work. I've got some rusted panels on my pickup that I have to repair before they fall off, and I'm dying to work on my vintage truck. Now I just have to get to bed so I can get to it. Toodles!

Thank goodness. I was worried you had abandoned your vintage truck. Great job on the cycling and all your plans for repairing things. You're so handy, DK. Your DW is very lucky. How has she been feeling?

She's doing pretty well; still recovering from this hammertoe operation, but she's out and about quite a bit now. Heather, sometimes I think you're in the wrong line of work, you ought to manage a rehabilitation facility or something; you're such an encourager to everyone.

That's sweet, DK. Glad to hear about your DW. Such a relief, you guys have been through a bunch. Give her a hug for me. Have a fun-filled, repair-filled weekend! LOL

DK..I know this is going to seem crazy but get you some dandruff shampoo for your dog...my sister's dog was doing the same...itching and itching and making sores on her leg..her vet told her to use that soap and it worked..she had an allergy to grass and heat as well...she would bath her about once every two weeks in the summer..the winter wasn't as bad...So glad you DW is doing well...Hang in there buddy..your doing good any way....:O)

Bren, you're probably right. If I bathed him often enough, probably any kind of shampoo would work. The last time I talked to the vet about him, he recommended Selsun Blue. I tried it, but I think he was too far gone. The vet thinks he's just very sensitive to the flea and nat saliva. She gave him a shot to kill any fleas he has plus any that jump on him in the next 24 hours, plus a steroid shot. I've got some special shampoo for him (that I got before) plus some special lotion for trouble spots. I'm to give him regular cortisone cream for humans in areas that are particularly itchy for him. Bottom line: I have to be more religious about bathing him and washing this stuff off I think.
