Each gram of carb or protein is 4 calories, they are equal. How does replacing one macronutrient with another aid in fat loss? Unless this was not a serious post, then I apologize.

Why do people turn to low-carb? Because they have failed with calorie counting time after time after time. If you don't liek low-carb, by garsh, don't DO low-carb. But don't piss on other people's parades just because it's not a method you would employ.

@The_Cutting_Machine it isn't about calories... it's about hormones. I can tell you from my first-hand experience - a calorie is not a calorie. I have never had obesity issues per se, but I have always monitored and found my weight to easily go up, even when maintaining around 2K calories a day. However, by omitting carbohydrates, well starch and sugar... not fiber of course, I have found that I can eat as much as 5K calories a day some days, averaging around 3K a day, and actually lose weight. No joke! I eat about 3K calories a day on a normal day and still see my weight drop. That's because foods that cause insulin spikes also result in the body storing the excess glucose in your fat cells and muscle cells.

@The_Cutting_Machine high insulin also results in the brain ignoring Leptin which is release by your fat cells to tell you brain that you're good and don't need to eat.

Clint, you weren't averaging 2k with carbs when you gained fat. You may have gained water. I agree cutting machine and so does science. I think the point of the post is that if you omit carbs you limit calories without having to count them. You can do the same with a lower fat diet if you eat whole natural foods. I'd say some fruit is much healthier than bacon too. To each their own though. Some of us need carbs to power through grueling workouts so we can make gains. Others are ok without as many "gains" and just want to lose the unhealthy fat.

I recently heard of cyclical keto where people who want muscle carb load one day a week. I saw a Facebook group for it.

Clint, thank you for the reply. I understand your logic behind it, but how do you explain the numerous amount of people who gain weight on low carb? Not trying to rain on anybody's parade, just asking questions to better understand the subject; the reason message boards exist.

Clint isn't unique, you can see many LC dieters claim what he claims yet once these people are placed in a metabolic ward they lose as well as everyone else on high carb diets. Now, outside of a ward, low carb is probably what he needs to maintain an energy deficit. He's in the hormones matter and calories don't camp so this isn't going anywhere.

It would be difficult to gain weight on a keto diet.

If you're gaining you ain't keto. If you need to gain you shouldn't be trying to do keto.

The_cutting_machine This one is based on a lot of research and actual science. People who do this loose body fat and get to keep their muscle. Keeping muscle is very important in my view. You want to see more than bone and skin when you reach normal body weight.
