Return to "Norm" - whatever that is. Up at 3:45 this morning. Hit the snooze at 3:30. Was already wide awake. Didn't sleep all that great last night; I think I got off my routine, staying up late to watch the Olympics, and then sleeping later than usual in the morning. Thought maybe I would sleep for 15 minutes and then get up. Nah, went ahead and got up. Actually raining outside - sort of - and very cool. Did 3.3 miles or so on the treadmill, keeping my HR under 70%.
Decided to start something new in my diet. A number of articles I've read suggested making sure you have some protein intake within a 1/2 hour of a workout, to enhance muscle healing and growth. So, I started making a whey protein cocktail in the morning, and drinking it immediately after my runs. This morning, I put in a little too much ice I think.
Brain Freeze big time! Using one of those Twisters I had bought DW to make smoothies. I got the chocolate flavored one - low cal if you add just water. Tastes pretty good. I wasn't sure I was going to get it all down; brain was frozen solid, if anyone had hit me in the head, I'm sure my head would have shattered. Not a great feeling for 5:00 in the morning. Note to self:
easy on the ice next time. I'm going to buy another container of the stuff to keep at work. One serving is like 26g of protein, about 150 calories, and if you take it 1/2 to 1 hour before a meal, it keeps you from pigging out. I tried it the other day, before we went to a restaurant, and I brought half the meal back home with me. So, it looks like that strategy might work.
Speaking of work, I probably ought to get some of it done - that is, if I can remember what they pay me to do here. Anyway, I'll take a stab at looking busy. How hard can it be? :)
DW is getting her chemo treatment today. Granddaughter had gall bladder removed about an hour ago, and might actually be going home in a couple hours. Other granddaughter is with DW. I am having Olympic withdrawels; I watch sports, during the Olympics, that I would never watch otherwise - like Rythmic Gymnastics, Water Polo, Beach Volleyball, and Synchronized Swimming. I love the dedication of the Olympians - just think, putting everything on the line for an event that only happens once every four years - for either heartbreak or elation. I really admire those young men and women - regardless of the country they represent.
Well, enough rambling for now. Hope everyone has a great day!
