It's really hard to candle non-commercial chicken eggs anyway. Our chickens lay eggs with much thicker shells than the commercial ones from the grocery store. We wouldn't candle them all anyway. We always crack one-by-one in a separate bowl though. Still gross.

Lock up that rooster. That's all you have to do. If you have enough hens, opt for quiet mornings (and chicken soup).

Rooster soup. We had a dozen hens and 1 male. He went through the motions but couldn't fertilize an egg. And his life depended on it. Too bad.
