well Im back again after having a very bad summer last summer. I have RLS and the Dr could not get it under control. I was on a ton of medications and they didn't work. They worked very well to make me gain weight. I couldn't exercise. Even if I could exercise, I would not have been able to exercise away the 20lb weight gain. I was beyond depressed. Well at last the Dr took me off the ineffective medicine and started me on something that worked. I saw a counselor that gave me a diet aid. Now Im down 34 lbs but still too heavy. I lost that weight by going to a bariatric clinic for medical weight loss. Now for the summer I am in Illinois and started at another weight loss clinic. I need outside support to stay on track. I won't do the liquid diet, I can't, I've tried them. So the dietitian worked out a diet plan for me. Seems at my age I only need 1200 calories a day. Also older women do not process carbohydrates well so I am eating protein, vegetables and some fruit (berries). My sister is on a similar diet and it is working for her.
I read somewhere that if you (I) are not willing to make the changes to your diet that are necessary to lose weight then you (I) should re-evaluate your desire to lose weight.... that has made me stop and think about giving up some of the food I was eating. I knew I shouldn't be drinking wine every night or eating the diet ice cream bar, but it was good. It is a choice. I really don't need the wine and if I have to have an ice cream bar I am happy with half.

Ok I have tried about a dozen different diets this summer. I am sure that all of them would have worked but I couldn't comit to them. I have simply avoided what I have to do and that is to exercise. I have had health issues making it very difficult to exercise. The next thought would be to watch what I eat more closely. Well really there is about a million different ideas on weight loss so I never knew which one to believe. I would start Optifast in the morning, then by noon doing Weight Watchers and at night simply throw in the towel and go into emotional eating---which felt good temporarly. Well I know what I have to do. I have metabolic syndrome which is a sure sign that I have to give up or cut back on carbs, the love of my life! By eventing on a low/moderate intake of carbs "diet" I would head to the kitchen and eat ice cream for fear I would b e unhealthy if if didn't get more carbs! So at least now I am comitting to restrict my carb intake to under 50 just for today.----then maybe I will comit again tomorrow. I have to be honest with myself that the high starch foods are not for me anymore. Throught the years my body has changed and I don't need that kind of food (starch and sugar). I do need meat, healthy fat and vegetables. I can do this.
There is a woman at the gym that was asked how she lost so much weight, she did not have much weight to lose. Her response was I eat fat! She said that she is now eating fat and exercises only 2-3 days a week and she has lost weight! Sounds Paleo, or Ketogenc to me.
