TheKarenS's Journal, 17 March 2015

This is the smallest I've been in months! And unlike before, I can tell a difference in how I feel, physically and emotionally. I have energy, and I actually feel good and happy!

So what have I been doing? I've been eating well. That means I've been keeping my carbs around 25 per day, or less, and eating real (whole, clean) foods. But most importantly, physically and mentally, I've been walking. I try to do it before a meal, preferably breakfast. And this weekend I even managed to walk before every meal. I feel that walking before eating puts your body in fat-burning drive. And often it alleviates that starving feeling, and then I'm less likely to over eat. Mentally, it makes me think more critically of my food choices. Cuz if I've put that much effort in, do I really want to eat that extra serving?

Whatever the case, I'm down 10+ lbs in 17 days. Woohoo!
148.6 lb Lost so far: 28.2 lb.    Still to go: 13.6 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Great job! My husband is doing Atkins & is also doing well. I'm doing low cal and so far I'm seeing good results too. You didn't mention if you wear a pedometer. I got a small simple one and I love it. Even if I don't walk for exercise every day, it still shows me total steps, miles and aerobic steps for the whole day. I find myself parking farther away from stores just to add up more steps! At midnight it resets to 0 automatically and it's super easy to use. Just thought I'd mention it!

That feeling of ruining all the hard work, keeps me on the straight and narrow, too.

Thanks for the kind words! :) I started off with calorie counting and exercise. I lost 60lbS, but couldn't lose the last 15. Also, during that time my blood work did not improve (I'm A lab tech and draw my blood once a month). When I went to low carb, the weight fell off and blood levels improved dramatically! I'm still a believer in calorie counting, but now I make sure they come from the right places. :) I used to have a cheap pedometer and didn't find it very useful. When I got my new phone, there was one installed that's very acurate, and it resets at midnight. I have found it to be a great motivator!

I'm glad you mentioned the improvement in your blood work. Mine is okay but my husband's was borderline bad. I bet it will be much better now that he has been following Atkins. He also uses his phone phone as a pedometer which works well for him. I think it a great motivator too!
