After just tracking my food intake today, I find I am well short of the caloric intake I'm supposed to have. I generally eat the same things every day with some random variances. I don't understand my issue with losing weight then. Could be starvation mode issue and I need to eat more of the right stuff...or the fact that a lot of my intake is grains/carbs. Nutrigrain bars for snacks, oatmeal for breakfast, etc. This whole thing is just so frustrating. I lost a ton of weight eliminating bread, pasta and potatoes...but I was irritable all the time. Then when I got my wisdom teeth out I survived on odwalla juices, but it's so expensive and I was definitely hangry. Why can this shit not be easy?

I recently started a keto diet and supplement program that is excellent! Low carb, but not no carb and the supplements really help with th eirritablility.

starvation mode is very much not a myth. it's basic biology. i'd recommend eating a bit more, maybe adding a new fruit or vegetable to your meals?

Maybe check out Reverse Dieting? It could be worth a shot if you've done metabolic damage. Also, you could try balancing your fat and protein with your carb intake (33% of calories from fat, protein, and carbs). Adding some more fat in and taking our some (not all) carbs might help.

sounds like you might need to try low carb , if you can get thru the 1st two weeks that crankyness will fade...

Starvation mode is a myth in the way most people think about it. http://www.aworkoutroutine.com/starvation-mode/

"The false part however is the idea that this “metabolic slowdown” is significant enough to actually STOP weight loss. It’s not. And it sure as hell isn’t significant enough to cause weight gain. It’s mostly just enough to slow down progress a little over time. A much bigger factor slowing down weight loss progress over time is the fact that you’ve already lost a bunch of weight, so your body just isn’t burning as many calories as it initially was. Meaning, your maintenance level has decreased because your body weight has decreased. So the calorie intake that caused lots of weight loss at 250lbs isn’t working as well (if at all) when you get down to 200lbs. And it’s this successful decrease in overall body weight combined with that small (but real) amount of adaptive thermogenesis that causes people to eventually need to make adjustments at certain points so that weight loss continues happening (which, by the way, is a one sentence breakdown of what causes weight loss plateaus, why they’re common and normal, and what ultimately solves them). It has nothing at all to do with “I’m eating too little and my weight loss stopped.” That’s nonsense, and literally every single study in existence supports this." - From the link above

this is a very supportive community here. thanks guys. I have no idea what's myth and what's not, but Im definitely open to blaming my own diet choices.

everyone is different and what works for me , might not work for the next person..Try new things and tailor it to your needs. I had a friend who does low carb but adds in a lot of paleo concepts so a little of this and that might help. Ive prolly tried 10 different diet before I settled on one that i support and believe in and I lose weight. Do what works for you. :) Good Luck !!!

Sick to death...of the folks who believe they are right about everything - you will find the best path for YOUR metabolism, age, activity level, etc. Do not be afraid to experiment and try new things - ketogenic works for me, or try Paleo plans - you made need to step up the exercise to counterbalance your food. I know eating too little often causes people to stall. You may try car cycling, and calorie cycling. Good Luck!

Are you getting enough protein and (good) fats? Your body needs the whole range of nutrients to function properly at the cellular level. Also, pay attention to salt and sugar intake. Even an excess of "diet" sugar might be sabotaging your weight loss. I know there are studies that have been done on how the body reacts to artificial sugar, and it basically processes it like regular sugar.
