Let's talk about rewards. I work hard to lose weight, walking/running every day and I never take a day off. If I don't walk every day I will gain weight. In February, I went to my doctor and my weight was down 34 lbs [from 222 to 188 lbs] and my blood sugar was normal so the doc took me off the diabetic pills. I bought a purse [tote bag] as a reward. In June, I bought a crossbody bag as a reward to celebrate getting out of the obese category into the overweight category at 163 lbs. I have two more goals left. 1) Get to my mini goal of 143 lbs. 2) Get to my goal weight of 136 lbs. I'm thinking about other rewards that I can look forward to giving myself. When you are working hard to lose weight, it is good to have something to look forward to instead of celebrating with food. When you reach a milestone, a mini goal or your goal weight, what will be your reward to yourself?

That is indeed a good idea. It gives you something to look forward to. I have to reward myself too. It is a good thing I saw this post on day 1 of my diet.

When I lost all the weight back on the Jenny Craig's plan, I rewarded myself with a new dress. Its beautiful and now my goal is to wear it again when I lose the weight for good this time! Pumped and ready to get this thing foin

Not so much a reward as it was to fulfill a need - but it still felt great - was for me to buy a new, shorter(smaller) belt. Along with that belt, I bought a new shirt that is a 'L' size rather than the 'XL' size that I currently wear. My goal is to fit comfortably into that 'L' shirt. The fact that I am down from a 'XXXL' size shirt is already a thrill for me...

When I reach my target weight I will reward myself with a trip to someplace I have not been, depending on the weather.

I've had to buy clothes out of necessity as mine were falling off me. I have to a least look presentable at work. It does make me feel better to wear clothes that fit. I've gone from a 16 to a size 6. Clothes are mostly thrift shop and outlet store purchases. I bought a bike last spring as reward but really have ridden it like I planned as life has gotten in the way. My goal is to be fit enough next summer to wear a bikini, 66 years and in good shape. I'm at goal but my body is still flabby but getting better.

Everyone goals are great. Wanted to get a bike with the money I received from my birthday in June instead I purchased certain items of clothing. I have gone through all my clothes that were in storage and have given away 3/4 of them. I have taken my friend out for Chinese (I know food not reward) but she doesn't drive and having a nice lunch with someone and having conversation does help the soul. I just eat mostly the veggies and salad.

Hi Deb - I so like your journal. You always have a fresh idea to share with us all. Thanks x I like your handbag theme..... maybe you could continue that theme for the next 2 goals as a decent handbag is for life so will always be there to remind you of your successes. PS My rewards to myself are quite "fluffy" so I won't write them here!!

If my handbag acquisition were based on weight loss I'd be a shadow now ( Love handbags). I have many different reward systems because I'm working on so many different issues. Ironic, food is sometimes a reward but not as in 'well, I lost x pounds I'll have a cookie' but as in 'that week went well, now let's go shop and think about yet another new healthy food to try .. recipe, etc' just to keep it fresh. Travel is sometimes a reward but not so much as 'lost x pounds, can go here' as in 'now that I can walk and stand and sit comfortably I'm going to go here and be able to enjoy it.'

My reward to myself is a Manicure/Pedicure. I deserved to be pampered as I am "remodeling my house," so to speak. Who says food has to be a reward? Thanks for sharing, as always...great blog.

My reward is similar in concept to yours. My reward is being able to buy smaller clothes. I started this journey in December in size 52 jeans. (Remember, I am 5'7" tall!) The next pair I buy will be size 40, as the 42's I bought about 5 weeks ago are starting to be loose on me. I just bought a beautiful new black blazer, size 52 regular and had to have the sizes taken in. I no longer need all that cloth around the middle that always required a portly or a bigger size that immediately needed to shoulders narrowed. I once had to buy a 58 regular suit! So you are doing the perfect thing for yourself. You are rewarding yourself with something that gives you lasting joy, not a meal that lasts 30 minutes AND serves to undo what you are rewarding yourself for.

Deb good job, I personally have never rewarded myself so maybe you buy a something new car. Eddie, I understand where you are coming from but if it works for Deb it work maybe if she gained the weight back which I hope doesnt happen she would seel or give her reward away everybody has different coping mechanisms. At my heaviest I wore a 44 now I am in a 34.

I have actually dropped 15 pounds since I started my new health plan and I am going to sign up at the gym for my reward, I am going to buy me some cute gym clothes ,head phones and all. I am just getting to sun exposed in the pool everyday and I am now a lot darker then I wish to be. Sun screen has not stopped me from getting burned. I would swim at night but our pool doesn't have a light and there are to many snakes out there for me. I am getting my winter workout stuff together so I will have it all ready for winter ,yea I know I live in Florida , how bad can winter be.

After I reach my next mini goal of 130 I will plan a spa date for myself. When I hit the 120’s I will have a bod pod test done.
20 Aug 14 by member: ChicaLean
nice bella! chica what's a bod pod test? i find the better i do, the more i let myself do better; sounds esoteric, but i got a bag at my -50 mark, and i joined the gym and now i got training sessions with a personal trainer. a while ago, i might have thought the gym is too expensive, and i am still justifying the trainer . . . . .since i have been doing better i have also allowed myself to get pedicures, and i might even go for a massage!

@Tulipgirl6-BOD POD: A method for determining the lean body mass. The BOD POD is a computerized, egg-shaped chamber. Using the same whole-body measurement principle as underwater weighing, the BOD POD measures a subject's mass and volume, from which their whole-body density is determined. Using these data, body fat and lean muscle mass can then be calculated.

chica: that sounds so cool! I wonder if it's claustrophobic? please tell us about it when you do it! I'm going to look it up!

A terrific reward IMO would be a massage. If you're working out hard, then what better than to reward those muscles? Also a hair cut, or mani/pedi? However, getting to your final goal will be such a huge accomplishment... perhaps a cruise is in order? They're a lot cheaper than you think, especially if you live near a port. And the gym is usually at the front of the ship, which makes for a spectacular view.

Tulip, I wold imagine it depends on your level of phobia. I am having it done Friday. It looks more spacious than you'd think, but again, I do not have that phobia so it won't matter. I spoke to the technician Monday. The test takes about 10 minutes and includes breathing through a tube to measure your lung capacity and chest cavity. From the data, body weight - lean mass = fat weight, and then you calculate what percentage of body weight is fat weight, and there's your body fat percentage. So someone that weighs 150 and has 30 pounds of fat weight, 150 divided by 30 is 1/5, or 20%.
