I know there are people who struggle with a much higher weightthan I do and who have lost 100+ pounds. This is something which seems to me like an awe-inspiring achievement, considering my measley 50 pound weight loss goal. Most days 50 pounds lost seems like an absolutely unachievable number.
I was looking this morning and realized, I have lost 17 pounds in a mere 4.5 months. It feels like such slow going, and a pound a week sounds like I will never make it to where I want to be... but 17 pounds! 17 pounds is so close to 20 pounds, and it feels like such a huge accomplishment. I was looking at the wrong date yesterday and thought I'd only lost about 13. But 17!

So I'm setting a goal for myself. I want to be at about 163 pounds by the end of August. That will be getting me much closer to the weight I was when my husband first met me.

On another note, I've been thinking a great deal about incorporating other exercises, and working out... something I've never been successful at doing at home. I dreamed about it this morning. I dreamed about being in a park, in public, working out without caring who was looking, or snickering at my jiggling body, and my Siamese cat showed up to quietly sit by and encourage me on. I hope hubby and I are able to get that gym membership soon. I am eager to start incorporating other types of activity, even if my body is not.

Well done on your weight loss :-)like you I had 50 odd pounds to lose, it seemed impossible, but not now :-) I am today over half way to go, i would encourage you too, I never felt good about working out especially in public, but now I know I feel lighter and do my stretches down the beach. Dont concern yourself about whos looking, be at ease and enjoy. Good Luck :-)

Tempest, don't be concerned about anybody who would snicker at you. Never make excuses for who you are. Never. You go out and jog if you want to with your head held high and know that you are taking steps you need to take, which is likely more than someone sitting on a bench snickering is doing. NEVER explain your purpose to anybody! You keep doing what you are doing. Everybody loses weight at a different rate because everybody's metabolic rate is different. I work out at home because it's easier, using my Wii Fit for step aerobics and torso twists. Then I pick up the dumbbells and do upper body. You can do this if you want it bad enough. Nobody can stop you from achieving any goal you set for yourself but YOU. Don't get in your own way and you'll get to where you want to be.

Tempest, I totally agree with Eddie here. Think about the kind of person who would snicker at someone trying to improve their life. This isn't the kind of person worth a second thought! I believe that most people look at someone working on improving their life and health with admiration.
