Katt6256's Journal, 23 June 2018

I am feeling so good about myself, after being laid up with double knee replacement, Dec. 26, 2018. In August 2015, I fell down a flight of stairs corkscrewing my spine, from neck to tail bone, because my knees gave out and away I went... thump, thump, thump! Anyway, long story short I'm feeling good about me, my knees, my exercising, my life, my way of eating (woe), and all of you, my FatSecret support team. Thank you!

Great News !!!! No exact date yet, but I am in need of dual knees as well. I am amazed your able to work out....can you tell a difference since having them done....admittedly I'm worried !!! You've given me a glimmer of hope for recovery once completed. I know far to many that have little success from this surgery. So I am constantly keeping up to date on knee replacements, cartilage regeneration, micro-fracturing, and other alternatives. I am so glad to hear of your achievements. Thanks for sharing and keep up your hard efforts. :)

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. My boyfriend had a right knee replacement years ago. He needs his left knee done now. They went in and removed scar tissue, but it didn't really help anything after all that. It got infected and they had to go in a second time. His left knee causes him a lot of pain, but he doesn't want to take off work to have the surgery.

I had my knees done 4 months apart also. It has been 4 years and I an great. The success is all in the rehabilitation. Work your butt off it will pay off in the end. Wish you the best.

Wright2018...I had both knees replaced 2005.. I continued to ride my horses, still do, work at my job on my feet for another 12 years, dance, hike, garden...I did and still do all the things I did before except one thing....I do not wear high heels. I've never had any issues with my knees, no pain. The secret to success after knee replacement is to have the BEST Physical Therapist possible. It's all about the kind of therapy you get after surgery. I the therapist is too gentle you're in trouble. I went to a sports therapist ..he was the best !

@katt6256's, @nickema, thanks for posting this topic about yourself and your husband. Without this great post, I would not have learned of better outcomes. Thank you all. I wish you all positive outcomes and healthy living !!! :D

@jessieQuinn, @oldhag, Thanks for the point of view and advice---mental notes have definitely been taken to heart and I will follow your guidance. See all those persons I've spoken with have had awful experiences, pain, scarring, infections, rework and more. This alone has made me lose faith in having it done, but my pain and locking up of the knees is worsening daily. I've been told to be prepared for life altering changes in activities, level of efforts, and more. So hearing these things from you has given me hope, rather than a bleak outlook. Thanks again !!!!

I had left knee replacement in December of 2016. Best thing I ever did. No more pain or arthritis. I agree that you need to have a good physical therapist but you also need a good surgeon. I researched the surgeons in my area to make sure I got a reputable one. She was the head surgeon for our minor league hockey team. Saw her 4 times: once before surgery, during and after (2x). Was walking on my own within a month and met the bend and straighten goal. Well worth it.
