lettygaylor's Journal, 22 October 2014

I went through my closet and got rid of a lot of shirts that no longer fit. No more 3X and 2X shirts for me. My mom says I should keep them in storage just in case. But I don't think I want to do that. Just knowing that they are still around makes me feel like I may fail. And failure is not an option.

get rid of them! I'm started going through my closet as well, and have a big pile of clothes to get rid of.. some brand new stuff.. will sell on a swap shop or Craigslist if I can, to have money to buy new clothes as I transition.

We have a local place that takes clothes and then sells them at a very low price, just to pay the bills basically. I think that is where I am going to take them.

I say chuck the shirts. I've got some that are way too big now, I'm donating them. Great attitude, keep it up!

You should keep one just to remind yourself how far you've come, and where you don't want to go back.

I packed up 5 garbage bags of clothes...5x to 2x...to take to my sister. She is about 50 pounds heavier than I am, but we are both on the Atkins plan and losing at about the same rate. I feel good about giving the clothes away, but I did keep a souvenir! My sister plans on donating the clothes to the local women's shelter when she loses each size. Women in a shelter need all the help they can get. And you can't usually find the larger size clothes at a thrift shop. So our blessing of lost weight is a blessing to someone else! And who needs the temptation of having those LARGE clothes in the closet! Keep on heading down on the scale :)

Good for you! I took some pictures of myself near the start of losing weight. The only clothes I kept was what I wore that day. My suggestion would be to keep one outfit for yourself, one that you really liked or wore a lot, as a reminder and let the rest go.

Toss them! No reminders of the past and a great reason to go out and get something that flatters the new you. Keep up the good work.

I agree, toss them out or give them away. You can always take them to Goodwill and get a receipt for tax purposes!

Thanks everyone! I think maybe the reason my mom also wanted me to keep them is because there are some t-shirts that she bought for me for helping her out, when she needed me. I think I'll keep one of those and definitely give the rest away.

everyone told me the same thing. Nope tossed them gave them away. But I did keep my smaller clothes in storage down to my 16 & 18's . Most of the 2x and 1x yoga pants and tops well they still serve their purpose for exercising.

I dream about being able to shop in the "normal" section of any clothes store...

You don't want those clothes weighing you down! The start outfit you can whip out to give motivations to others that it can be done. Yay!

Do you have a women's shelter near where you live? They would love the donation!

Women's shelters always need help, I now donate mine to the salvation army. Most of the so called charity thrift shops here are now for profit ones. The salvation army also has a women's shelter, so they do direct needed items to there as well. Some of the workers have told me their stories on how the organization has helped them get back n their feet, they are amazing stories.

They are trying to build a women's shelter in my hometown. I live in a very small town but I can give them to a place that is like the Goodwill but it's locally run by a group of ladies that work closely with the church.
