How has unmanaged ADHD negatively impacted my weight loss journey??? ✓inability to remain consistent ✓unable to maintain same level of energy on daily basis -either FULL OF LIFE or lethargic and cant move...no in-between ✓if something seems too hard i excessively assess if its worth it to put in the effort ✓constantly researching / in pre-planning stage before i try to execute the knowledge ✓frustration at not seeing results ✓binging disorder /habits(impulsiveness) ✓any established routine gets derailed with a new hyper-focus/fixation /hard to integrate something new into routine...list could continue but this is the most important part of this.
ADHD is more then just "SqUiRrEL!!!" brain... Certain areas in the brain slow down when expected to speed up, which is where the lack of focus comes from, yet interesting dopamine releasing activities will be done to excess until exhausted.. This is why i became a drug addict at 13 when my doc recommended ritalin when i was 12.. the dopamine would have been there and i could have saved myself 14 years of self destructive behaviors.. i was underweight for a long time until i started hiding and eating in secret. hope you enjoy this post.

ADHD can be difficult, especially when it comes with other diagnoses. And it sounds like you can't take Addy since you mentioned addiction.

I have the same problems with my ADHD! I can take medicine but i feel like it takes my sparkle✨ away and makes me act like a zombie 😂

Personally, medications have allowed me to become so much more focused on my goals and allow me to have the consistent energy (I lack without meds) that I need throughout my days. But I only use it for days I’m required to be productive cause I like to live my normal adhd life without medication controls at times too. All about a healthy balance

Had a buddy with that issue and a wide ruled (so you can see it without glasses on, or in low light) notebook kept in the kitchen so he could write down what and when he ate, as well as star for what he liked (big "X" for hated) helped him lose 110 pounds in a year.

I happy to read these comments. It has been difficult, slowly, Tish, im figuring it out!! Lol TUD- looking back, i did take Adderall that wasnt mine, but when my friend and i compared notes we didnt have the same experience, she abused her own script-she fudged the answers on the assessment so she she could get it...i was "nah girl im fine! I didnt feel THAT high, i could actually focus on a task like housework until it was completed/felt clear headed..." now i know why as i thought i had a high tolerance to it. The doc knows my history, and they will still give it to me but i gotta sign a contract thingy. Ive been sober since mar 5th, 2018. Will have a small glass of wine on occasion (i am greek and italian- it was always at the dinner table growing up) but im managing soooo much better. I was even able to receive painpills (meds of choice to abuse in past) but only got like 5 at a time, and i did warn the doc i was wary about getting them.

Jada- my son also takes meds for his, and when i was reading about it, the zombie effect might mean the dose is too high..hope this helps you, there might be a possibility of recieving a lower dose to keep the sparkle!🧚🏼‍♀️💃

Bipolar was no bargain on that front, for many of the same reasons. Getting mental health managed is often key to making positive changes to physical health. The good news is, you recognize the barriers, which can help you figure out what works for you. You've done a lot of work, Dazey, and come so far. Know that I'm rooting for you 🤗❤️

Inkrose and ford- yes. Im waiting before getting meds to be able to process all the info and see where its interfering with me. Im 30 and just got diagnosed as an adult. I learned last week my dad knew since i was 10/11 and just never told me-&that i was supposed to be medicated by 12... (Both my parents are drug addicts/alcoholics) "its a superpower" he said.... What!! I cant just stand at the sink and wash all the dishes in one go.... i stop to clean the counters, then rotate laundry, then clean the foyer, go back to the dishes cuz i found that long lost yeti under a coat in the closet.....SUPERPOWER HE SAYS😩🤯🦸🏼‍♀️

Writing thank you!! :) That means alot and you are so right! Ive known for the 5 years, since my sobriety, life was more and more of a struggle. My binge eating was outta control and now im finally putting things in place mentally and really figuring myself out when self care was not promoted in my home growing up. I lived to serve my alcoholic parents, and then a sociopath narcissist. Now im free of that level of caretaking. Its getting better.

LOL a super power that has its weakness at times. But we often do overachieve goals as a neurodivergent person just can be expressed differently for us than normal. Wanted to add that they do offer other medicines that are not stimulants but still used for adhd so thats also an option. I like using meds for super busy days or work days and then always include learning new coping skills to manage the adhd without meds so that I am not highly dependent on them. It has helped a lot for me personally and I do recommend trying to build healthier or better habits and incorporate them if you decide to use meds in the future for best results bc medicine wont cure you, that’s for sure.

I also am ADHD. I can't focus to save my life! Sometimes I talk so much I even get tired of hearing my own voice! Then some days my brain fog is so bad I can't function correctly. I feel your pain! I haven't taken meds and find that working out helps me tremendously. It gives me a focus point and burns some of that useless energy. 💜💜

@Diana - You made me laugh with your statement of I even get tired of hearing my own voice! I understand ADHD a lot as my son had it growing up and still has it and now my grandson has it. I think I have it too but just never tested. I have to really concentrate to focus but totally agree with the working out helping! Excercise actually releases the natural chemical in our body to help with ADHD I learned that when my son was going thru this in elementary school.

Yes, my fellow ADHDer! It's an all-inclusive, fun-filled adventure! 🙂🙃🙂🙃 The struggle is super real. Neurotypical people have absolutely no idea how completely invasive it is; it affects every aspect of a person's life. Bravo for learning how to function in a typical world, whilst taking care of others who have their own neurological challenges. I personally know the utter challenge that is. Dazy, you must be an extremely strong lady! 💚. Proud of the amazing progress you have made. Keep it up!

Our stories have so much in common dazey its actually kinda crazy. You can harness it and make it a super power I got off the pills around the time I started on fat secret I woke up one day and said screw this there is no way im putting this in my body for the rest of my life. I was on them for 18 years. Exercise has become my way to manage it naturally and the obsessive traits make it so I can keep it going. Of course if I stop for too long getting back will be pretty hard but this trains not stopping anytime soon. Keep at it I know how rough it can be.

Worked with a person who had ADHD and he told me the best advice I gave him was to keep a small flip notepad (3x5) with him and write down the "To Do", "Not done due to" and "Finished" list as he went about his day. Maybe this would help ?
