I want to binge eat right this minute bc I felt stupid at work all day. It is going to be like this for awhile bc I am learning some new software and its very hard. I don't have any binge food so I would have to get in my car and drive to the gas station. I want candy, cake, and cookies.

1 hour later...at the exact time I was typing this my Dad called me. I told him the problem, vented, and cried. I feel a lot better now and I'm glad I didn't do it.

And now you can feel really smart. You identified the problem but you did not act on your impulse. And you will tackle that software in no time as well. Good job, you can be proud of yourself. And you are lucky to have a father who supports you.

Punishing yourself for feeling bad is never a good idea.

I've done a lot of different things in my life. Currently, I develop software. Everyday I'm confronted by stuff I don't know. It can be frustrating, especially if there's time pressure and people are counting on you. Continue trying. Observe yourself, how you respond. Experiment. How might you respond better. At the end of the day reflect on how it went. Encourage yourself and commit to doing better tomorrow. You will see progress, not only professionally, but personally. This progress will begin to multiply. Oh, and keeping a positive attitude, and with definite goals, aiming at what you really want, you'll be one of very few on the path to greater and greater success. Good luck!

Thanks for the help and inspiration everyone! @Knight, yeah I am an engineer so I totally get what you are saying about not having a clue constantly. It can be very stressful.

It's also a good thing that if you feel like this, as I do and maybe we all do from time to time, that you would need to drive to the gas station (as I would) to stock up on rubbish. That's why I make sure there is never anything 'dangerous' in the house because there is something about actually driving to fulfill my craving that has stopped me from going through with it in the past. Especially if, as usual I am at home looking like a car crash and would have to get my act together and morph from dog to human before I even get in the car lol Anyway, well done for getting through it and talking to someone is often all you need to do. Good woman!

Shelly, not getting something isn’t a reason to feel stupid. The software implementation team should feel stupid. LOL YOU are their customer who must use the product and understand it. I was a project manager for computerized systems development for years and supervised many rollouts. 🤷🏻‍♀️Take a deep breath, everyone wants you to succeed and understand this. Ask the pertinent questions that you need to and don’t be shy or afraid of ‘looking dumb’. I swear to God, if you have the question and it is confusing to you, it is probably confusing someone else as well and answering your question will help them better train in the future and know where the gap is in their explanation. So it’s a win-win. You are providing a service actually. Helping to show where computerese gives way to normal people or tech speak! LOL Translation is good for the soul! That was my job way too often!! Good luck Hon!🙆🏻‍♀️
