Got my monthly dose of grit and mud therapy in today. Hardest obstacle of the day was forcing myself to walk, not run and forcing myself to do the 5 mile course instead of the 10 mile🙄 been dealing with some tendonitis from a bone spur and didnt want to agrivate it but still needed to feel somewhat whole at the same time. Took my time on the course stopping and lending a helping hand to get people through the obstacles they were struggling with. As always met some great people and heard some great stories of what got them there today. Did some of the course with 2 girls one 26 and one 19 both 7 months sober living in a recovery house and there because they just didnt know what else to do anymore. They both lit up when I congratulated them on their success and told them that I'm going on 14 years now myself and was 23 when I gave it all up. Going into recovery at a young age can be very hard to relate to the mostly much older people in programs. We talked for awhile before I split off to do my favorite obstacle that was part of the long course but only added an extra .5 mile and since I paid for it I wasn't going to miss it 🤣 video is here

Raced home just in time to be ready for oncall to start fingers crossed for a quiet night on the couch with the kids. Ohh and the other highlight was dropping my go pro in 4 feet of muddy water and having to dive down and feel around to find it ... fun times..

I sure hope you don't get called out after all of that!!! You did awesome. Especially talking to the 2 recently sober young women. Not sure how anyone can do this course. I look at that brown mess and think to myself, "This had better be caramel!! LOL!

OTB you are only a couple years older than my lil kiddo! Yes yes i did the math 14+22=36 (😂). Hubs got sober at 22 also and will be 24 years this year. Best decision ever. You are like the pebble in the pond. You are spreading inspiration and hope wherever you are thrown. So to speak. Super enjoying the pictures. Thanks brother.

Yearofhealth2023 haha come to think about it I must have been 23 but only for a few months. yeah I consider it to be the decision that allowed every other decision from that point on to be possible. my life would be very different or realisticly it would have ended years ago

I hear you loud and clear and agree. I grew up with an alcoholic father. It was normal to come home from work and pop the top off 24 Budweisers. Cannot remember a time in my childhood where it wasn’t in his hand and i dont have very many good memories of him. When i see your posts with your babies knowing some of the journey you have been on i have wondered what it must be like to be so loved and cared for by a good daddy and one who is PRESENT for their life.. TMI. I know YOU know what a tremendous change you have made. Now i wish i could actually give you a hug so sending a virtual one.

sobriety is the best change you could have made for yourself and your family! Much like YOH, both my parents were alcoholics and drug addicts. I started following down that dark path. Thankfully my oldest doesn't remember me at my worst but i know it happened and thats bad enough. march 5th 2018 is 6 years ago and i still cant believe it!! my apartment was robbed from my brother's friends. i was saving up money to go back home to greece. 3grand gone. i knew i needed to change my lifestyle and the people i had around me...that was the wake up call.

I commend you for getting sober and taking control of your life! I have addiction issues in my family and I can tell you as a child how helpless you feel. Never knowing what to expect when you come home from school spikes the anxiety level into overload. I rarely drink and I'm sure it's related to my dysfunctional childhood. I'm glad you could be an inspiration to others and u set a great example for your children. 🩷

Yearofhealth2023 thank you and I'm deffintly at least the third generation one but the only one to stop 🤦‍♂️

Change is always started with one person. Mine is generational also tho dont know why it never held any allure for me. When i was a young adult it was the calories and i was aware that it ran in my family. Im so proud of you my friend.
