Fritzy 22's Journal, 19 May 2024

It's better than it looks and also worse than it looks. I hadn't posted my weight for over 60 days. Unlike post people on this site, I don't like to post my weight when it increases. I had set a new 15 pound goal somewhere around the first of the year. By January 21st I was down, maybe 4 or 5 pounds. Then stuff happened - being told by an orthopedist he recommended total knee replacement, finding out the new house that was going to be built in Oregon wasn't going to happens. Plenty of excuses. I started to gain. I can gain a lot of weight pretty fast. I posted some of the gain but never as much as it actually was. Then I just stopped stepping the scale and did not post my weight. When my house was listed for sale, 5 weeks ago I stopped cooking and got meals to go. Chicken strips at least 4 times, a Subway meatball sandwich, tacos I'm sure. I finally weighed myself in the morning about 10 days ago and was 185. So I started trying to eat less carbs than protein and lost over 6 pounds. So today's weight is correct. Still need to lose 5 pounds to get to January's weight.

So far, no one has looked at my house this weekend. I had asked someone who posted on Nextdoor to weed wack my property after giving up my yard care service. He texted me yesterday to make sure I still wanted him to work today. He asked what time and said he should come over. I told him I preferred the morning. Then he texted and asked if he could come right over. I said yes, but why? He just wanted to see my yard. I knew he a teenager, probably in high school. A few minutes later hecame over with his dad. They introduced themselves and we walked all over the lot, nearly 1/2 acre. His dad was pointing out things he should do. Really nice and polite young man. He said he'd be over at 8am and should finish it all by 11. I looked outside at 8am and he was working! I went out at 11 to pay him. He got about half the property done, mostly out front and it looks so much better than what the lawn service does. He's only 16 and wants work for the summer. He said he could come by during the week to finish. Anyway, I hope he is able to keep on working for me. He also said he'd clean the pond on my bank.

Still eating okay today but have lunch coming up next week with a friend at Red Robin.

O fritzy this sounds like me every time i have started piling weight back on going back 35 years it has been in large part due to the ostrich syndrome. I stop weighing myself. Until 2014 it would only go up 10-20 pounds before i would face the music but in 2014 due to medical issues and family drama i quit caring even as i saw myself go from a size 4 to 6 to 8 to 10 to large as i refused to buy anything larger than a 10 but didnt want to face the music. Even as my mobility decreased and i felt worse and worse. I am now in the age group where i cannot afford to hide my head in the sand if i want to stay mobile and healthy for the last part of life (which i do after all 60 is the new 40 and 70 is the new 45😂). I sympathize with you. Good job on holding yourself accountable today and getting back on track. It’s so easy to get derailed. Hugs my friend.

Thanks YOH! Ostrich syndrome! Never heard that but it certainly fits. I started doing better last year but just went off the rails for a couple of months. Usually when my jeans get too tight I'll get back to trying to lose because I don't want to buy bigger sizes and sweat pants don't work when it's 100 degrees outside!

We share similar problems regarding diet. I do better if left alone to eat what works for me on my schedule. When things get wacky and things always do I find I can't keep up with everything and I veer off plan. I am slow to get it back off. I don't seem to be able to cut back like a lot of people can. I don't tolerate hunger well. I am so glad you found someone to take care of your yard. It is ridiculous the way that businesses let people down any more. My MIL and her neighbors were left high and dry by their lawn business service with no notice. Totally unacceptable!!

Thanks Morticia! I think you've said there are lots of food you don't really like. I'm the same way and was a picky eater as a kid. For me to do well losing weight I almost have to be obsessed about it. Right now, planning carbs and protein is helping me to focus. It is so nice to have someone help me with my yard. I have to call and cancel the yard service. I really want a small yard in my next house

What a great kid! I'm so glad you have work for him! I'd also post a great review for him on Next Door as well. As for weight, well it's not what you want but life sometimes throws us curve balls and I'm sure eating out isn't helping.. sometimes it just is what it is...just try your best and hopefully the house will sell soon and you can regroup. Wonder why the house isn't getting more views?

Thanks missy! I saw a 2nd orthopedist who said I don't knee replacement at point. I had an MRI and know the meniscus is torn and there is floating or loose bone and cartilage. But the knee has literally stopped hurting. I usually take an Ibuprofen before going to sleep but probably don't need it. It does sometimes hurt in the middle of the night but I'm usually half asleep and it's not bad enough to get up for Ibuprofen. I'm using up a,box of Wonderslim mocha shakes with 15 protein grams.

Thanks Diana! I told the young man I would give him a good review once the work is done. I don't want others hiring him away right now. I was the first person who called him. Usually I check out what other people say and reviews. But I was desperate! I feel good now that I've lost the weight I gained since my house went up for sale. Focusing on carbs and protein helps but it can be difficult. I want to use up the food I have. I'm having half and English muffin with butter now as well as the yogurt and just one cup of coffee. It's a goid size breakfast for me. I had a Lean Cuisine today that has more protein than carbs! Salisbury steak and macaroni and cheese. As for the house, I don't know. I think the timing would have been better in March when there were few homes for sale. Now there are more than double than March. Interest rates don't help and this is an odd place. A nice gated community with a golf course, lake, etc, but out in a rural area in the middle of nowhere. My real estate agent is voming over in a few minures. I have a list of things to ask her and I know we need to lower the price because everyone else is

So glad things are on the way back for the scale and food choices. Stress can do that to us. I’m glad you found a good helper for the yard too! Anything to lessen the load for you is worth it.
