Been thinking last night and this morning and have come to the conclusion that I've become complacent in my weight loss over the past several weeks. I'm wearing smaller sizes in shirts and pants and the loss has been noticed by a lot of people I'm around, that's all good. I'm lighter now than I've been in probably 20 years and that feels very good. But I've started to become comfortable with those things and am not working as hard at this as I was in the beginning. The easy weight is gone, while I still have plenty to lose it's not going to come off as quickly as it did at the start. So time to strengthen my resolve, buckle down and do a better job than I have been doing recently.

My wife is doing very good post-surgery. In my opinion she's doing as well or better than anyone else in physical therapy sessions. She needs at least 90 degree range of motion in her knee before being released and yesterday afternoon she was at 100 degrees, they're going to try and get 5 more degrees today in therapy. So there should be no reason she won't be released to come home today after physical therapy this afternoon. I'll be primary care giver for the next couple weeks, Lord grant me patience and wisdom to be there for her and know when to shut my mouth.

I really relate to that "coasting" feeling in our efforts. It is so easy to relax and just "get comfortable" with where we are. I suppose the struggle is finding that balance between accepting the pleasure that comes in knowing how far we have come and accepting the challenge of knowing how far we have to go. My son who is training for a fall marathon and ran 17 miles yesterday morning said on the phone last night, "Our bodies can do so much MORE than we THINK they can do, and it is really rewarding to surprise ourselves." His words motivated me to push. Have a fine Thursday!

There are oodles of exercises which increase the range of motion. A little FYI... she will have difficulty sleeping. Crazy, but I and 3 others I know that had it experienced the problem. We don't know if it's the inability to get comfortable, the pain ???? Don't know. But I rotated during the night from the recliner, to the sofa to the bed. And they may tell you to keep her knee above her head. Not necessary. Higher then hip is good enough. You can go on Amazon and check out their knee cushions which keep it elevated. I'm loaded with ideas. Give me a yell if necessary.

Great news on the wife! I hear ya about the complacency. I tend to get to a point where my body feels better than it had in the past and then start to get cocky like I can start eating crap again or skipping a workout. It always leads back to those weight gains. This time I'm determined to continue on. You will too, I know, cause you're here journaling and getting feedback from others. If you're talking about it, you are thinking about it - now you just gotta do it! I know you will! Keep up the great work!

Glad that your wife is progressing so well. Feel the same way you do. I agree it's time to buckle down and work a little harder. Too many calories for me this week but still sustaining 1-2 lb loss. As far as knowing when to keep your mouth shut with your wife, try saying, "pins and needles, needles and pins" when you feel one of those moments coming. It worked for Alice on the Honeymooners.

Kathy, she's got a problem sleeping even before the surgery and gets panic attacks just anticipating not being able to sleep. I hope they're going to prescribe a sleep aid, she was getting something in the hospital at night, Ambien I think. Thanks for the tips. I just remembered I told her I was going to have new pillows on the bed when she came home...hope there's time to go by the store on the way to the hospital today.

Glad to hear your wife is recovering quickly. Breaks from weight loss are not necessarily a bad thing. Over the last fifteen months I have had periods of kick ass weight loss followed by some bouts of maintenance and sometimes an increase or two. It's a good mental health break as well as a good break for your body and metabolism boost. You'll get back into and be great, you've had so much to deal with lately... very inspired by how well you've done.

You will need a lot of patience. Just never tell her : "I'm sure the pain is not that bad". "Cheer up, it could be worse", or something like that. Also don't give her unwanted advice. As I said in my previous comment she will be cranky. My cousin had a knee surgery, it's very painful. I was just sitting next to her bed and she cried and said that she can't take it anymore. Ah, I hope your wife will not be in tat much pain. Take care.

Don't beat yourself up ... the thing I learned after yoyoing for years is the working hard at it doesn't work. It's a actually the changing habits that works. I also have a large amount to lose and have lost. Resolve comes and goes, habits persist.

Snezica... excellent share and so true. It is a brutal surgery and the recovery can be long. I know of one fellow who had it done and was ready to do the second one within weeks. He was an exception. Me. Took over a year.

I think you're going to find that this lapse into complacency is actually going to do you good, and give you better results when you start back up. Glad to see DW is doing good.

It's good to feel good about your loss so far and to be comfortable with it! But becoming complacent can be something that will bite you. Just think of how great you feel now and how great you could feel weighting even a bit less! Don't rush it though. It's nice to take a break from working hard at it but watch yourself and make sure you don't fall back and gain again. You don't want to defeat your hard work and fell bad about it. You have been doing great!

Congrats on the success to date! Being on FS is probably the best way that I know of to keep motivated and moving in the right direction. Knowing that I have to log all my successes and failures along with my daily exercise and diet for all my FS buddies to see encourages me to stay on the path of dietary righteousness. Its one thing to fail in private and quite another to fail in front of the whole world. Besides, knowing that others are working toward similar goals and striving to improve their health and lifestyle along with me provides a great impetus to try harder. So good luck on your continued success, I know that you'll meet these challenges and achieve your goals.
