Revaudrey's Journal, 20 January 2020

I'm really discouraged.
I've been eating so well, staying within my calorie limits, exercising 4- 5 days per week, (running, walking and weight machines), working my tail off (most days are 12-16 hour days of work that includes lots of meetings, lots of driving, tons of email in the morning before the gym and email after dinner before bed...).
It is Winter. I hate the cold.
Working 6 days per week.

Seeing wonky scale results. (Down 2 pounds, up 4, down 1, up 3...) all within one week. I weigh myself in the morning first thing, no clothes. The scale is just one data point, but it has a lot of influence over my mood.

Do you find your water intake is different on your busy/travel days? That and the stress can play a part in the scale results, I'd bet. It does for me anyway.

Have you been eating salt some days? That can make my numbers look wonky

Trust the numbers. Do you use a food scale? Water weight fluctuations are normal, just look at the trend over a month+ to see if you're on track.

Greetings, Revaudrey! The 3 comments above are excellent advice! I would just add - Stay the course. I am at a yo-yo stage as well, up 2 lbs down 2, it doesn't appear to make sense. But most important for me is to keep working out. If you didn't exercise the numbers would be much worse. You got this!!!

We are 70% water, fluctuations make perfect sense unless you had the exact amount of sodium, carbs(each gram binds 4 grams of water), water intake, and bowel movement every day, you will have normal up and downs.

I ate 1800 calories and lifted for an hour. I'm up 2 or more pounds. That's how it goes. Gotta learn to roll with it. If you're doing your part, then don't worry about the scale. 💪🏼👍🏼

Yes probably fluid fluctuations! I have a lot of them myself!

I used to be scale obsessed but now I only wish 2xs a week. Weight can flucuate so much. Tmi, but bowel movements, sodium intake, carb, intake, inaccurate logging true amounts of food, etc can effect your daily weight. I agree with Diablo. Give it time and if you still have unsatisfying results, rethink your diet n exercise routine. Good luck!💜💜

I weigh daily but only record up or down 1 pound in each direction. (Probably the same idea as those that weigh once a week; let’s you focus on the overall trend.) That has reduced the scale stress for me. Hope you fond what works for you. 👍

All normal. I’m up over a pound, monthly came and I lifted heavier yesterday than I have in a long time, and very little sleep last night. It’s normal. But a bit worried. Carry on. You’ll be fine, just be consistent and never quit!!

NOT a bit worried I meant to say!!

You'll do fine, trust me. Just take more water/sugarless-tea to make sure your bowels are working normally. If you ate foods that get you constipated or with lots of salt that cause water retention its quite normal to see some ups and downs. Salut !

I feel your pain. It is hard. No easy solutions, and logic doesn't help when you are living it.

You'll have to use a different app/website to see your trend weight..FS is lacking on that front.

perhaps only weighing once a week would help level it out and keep your mind healthy.
