Hi everyone,
One thing I have to say for myself is I don't quit. If you look at my weight chart it is up and down like a jagged mountain range.

I know how to lose weight. Did it many times. The problem I have is Binge Eating Disorder. It's an unstoppable force. I have been binge eating for a month now and I just haven't been able to stop.

So I started taking Vyvanse. It's a controlled substance for ADD (which I happen to have also) and moderate to severe binge eating disorder.

I started it yesterday. Last night was the first night I didn't have urges to binge eat. I think it will take about 2 weeks to believe that this medicine is actually working because that's about how long I can typically last before a binge eating episode.

I noticed I said "last". It is exhausting fighting the urge to eat. I'm not talking about urges where you just hungry or bored. The urge to stuff your face with everything that is not nailed down. Large quantities of food consumed in a short time. A feeling of urgency or that you will "die" if you don't eat.

I have been doing this binge eating since I was in middle school. So I think it's a real thing for me. I don't have a problem working hard to lose weight but it sure would be nice if this medicine can help me by taking away or reducing this issue.

I try to be open about my struggles in the hopes it may help someone else. Don't ever give up on your journey!

You certainly don’t quit, good job for that. When you want to binge go out for a walk, take a shower, take a bath...do something else

@Shelly, have you tried focused meditation similar to hypnosis as far as a redirect strategy?

I share your struggles with binge eating. I find the worst of it is the first 3 weeks. After about 19 days, my body purges all the sugar and toxins. My urges never really go away, but once the sugars are out of my body I seem to have a little more control over them. It’s nice to see you back.

Your openness is amazing. I hope the med helps control your horrific urges. My daughter is frequently put on huge doses of steroids for severe asthma and from what she told me, feels somewhat like you feel. She too has lost too many pounds to count. She's now working, like you, to get her weight down after a long year of severe asthma attacks & huge doses of steroids. I know you can do it! I'll pray for you.🙏

And, don’t keep any of your binge triggering food items at home. If you have to get up, get dressed and go to the store to buy that crave item it will at least slow you down and give yourself time to rethink that need.

I hope the medicine works for you. Like Kenna, I find if I don't keep trigger foods in the house, I do better.

Thanks for your candid post. I suffer binge eating as well, and have found that either Keto or LCHF way of eating (WOE) make me less likely to want to binge in the long run. I still struggle sometimes, but so much less! I had ice cream today and I could just ... stop when I was done my portion. It was a relief! Everyone who says you have to stop keeping trigger foods in the house are of course correct. But I can now have things in the house and not eat them! I also credit Kombucha with helping towards my decreased desire to binge, which sounds crazy, but I feel it works. Good luck on your journey, and happy to have another friend to keep us company as we all get healthier!

thanks for sharing <3 I've also struggled with binge eating a lot. Things that help me: when not in a "bingeing" mood, think carefully about if there's a pattern in your emotions that associates with bingeing, recognize that those feelings are valid and you don't have to label them as "I need to eat now." Also, adding more plant fats and proteins (almonds, peanuts, beans) - I never believed it would make me feel "full" but seems to help a ton! Also also, making a conscious effort to eat 3 meals a day and only 1-2 healthy snacks (nuts/veggies). Also also also, using a goal-tracker app that reminds me before breakfast, lunch, dinner that "it's time to eat a healthy meal! :D" and being able to check off when I do that - now I don't want to break my streak of good habits! I know it's hard, you got this friend!!

Binge eating is a way to cope with anxiety. Our truest self and the self we believe we are are always in conflict. It's a constant battle. When the urge is there, take a deep breath and notice which voice is it. The true or false self. I understand that this is hard. I myself also struggled with this problem, but I truly believe that it is dissolving away. Nourish your body. Stay away from fad diets. Practice self love. Be honest with yourself, and be patient. Know that once you fully commit, there will be no stopping. I wish you the best on your journey and if you ever need a friend to talk to, just send me a message and I will try my best to help you. Love, Shae 💜
