Bavarian Red Cabbage

A hearty meal.

Directions

  1. Shred the apples (with peel) and cabbage (about a 3 pound head).
  2. Put the cabbage, apples, bay leaves, cloves, ginger, salt, sugar, broth, franks (along with any juices from the package) into a crock pot.
  3. Simmer on low all day. Adjust temperature depending on how long you need it to cook.
  4. If cooking on a stove top, heat some oil in a large, heavy soup kettle. Add the cabbage and brown for about 4 to 6 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the apples, bay leaves, cloves, ginger, salt, sugar, and broth. Bring to a boil; reduce heat, cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
  5. Remove and discard the bay leaves. Stir in the lemon juice.

Reviews 
This is 2 points per 1 cup serving, using 2 tablespoons of oil makes it 4 points. I cooked it with the oil from the original recipe the first time (and forgot to take it out of the instructions). It didn't seem to add anything, so I've left it out since then. You can use an egg slicer to slice up the hot dogs so you can taste them in every bite (just clean it up quickly or it's hard to get off).
