Retired Field Artilley soldier looking to get motivated.

Well here goes. I am a retired US Army soldier with 20 years. I've been out for 10 years and I have gained 65 pounds since I got out. I would like to shed at least 45 of those and get down to 190 lbs. I don't care to diet in the traditional sense because I am the only one in my family overwieght. I just trying to stay away from sweets and watch the amount that I eat. I stay away from those second helpings that have gotten me here.
