Is this supposed to be like a fat resume? I'm not here for dating advice (joke), as I'm happily involved with a gentle (with me anyways) giant retired marine who reminds why I love being a Raiders fan, and my fire starts from within. I'm somehow not normal - I'm comfortable saying "Hi! my name is Dorrie, and I'm an addict" to anyone at any given time and yet I can't seem to figure out what to write here for a bio... go figure! I've been clean since 2/11/91 - a few failed marriages - successfully raised some pretty great kids plus adorable grandkids & grandpups too! I'm a safety professional for a DOD/DOE contractor where I work on a military base. I love what I do!! I'm a military brat, so it was an easy conversion. I'm a Leo, my favorite color is clear. I was once 386lbs, found a 12step program for people who replaced addiction for food, got rid of almost 200lbs and kept it off for about 7 yrs. Then my body rebelled, and I've been fighting it since 2004 but without much enthusiasm or conviction until recently. Now I have answers (thyroid aka hypERthyroidism - go figure), and now I feel stronger than ever in my resolve to WIN this battle and return to a weight I feel confident and comfortable with. I'm not trying to follow that 12step food plan, as it was not "healthy" for me long term. Now, I simply am reducing calories, getting off my behind, and increasing my water intake while using this amazing website. I've been encouraged by what I've seen so far, and I'm excited again to see where the path goes!!

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
For me - the only true success for weighing myself is to do so on the 1st of the month ONLY! I weigh myself at work on the warehouse scale, so I know it's been calibrated and accurate. I weigh myself when I first get to work, which is usually about 2hrs after I get up and before I eat. If the 1st of the month falls on a weekend, then I weigh on the Friday or Monday closest to the 1st. There's a method to my madness - as I'm VERY compulsive and obsessive (I'm an addict with 29yrs clean time). I will weigh hourly and have before when I'm completely off my rocker about my weight, so to remove the obsession, I schedule my weigh ins and have a witness to hold me accountable. Yes, I get that deep... LOL! It what works for me! In the past 5 or 6 years I never weighed myself, and would turn away from the scale at the doctor office - including throwing a hissy fit when one nurse announced to me what my weight and BP was when I didn't ask for it. She's never done THAT again! My primary care doc had a long talk with me about a year ago about my thyroid - since it didn't even register in my bloodwork! How can I possibly have hyPERthyroidism? Well - since then I'm VERY aware of my weight, my body functions, and the only thing I can do for myself now is follow doctors orders, take my meds, and forgive my body if I follow all my diet/exercise plans laid out for me and the scale doesn't reward me for the effort! It is what it is, and I hope if you're still reading this it helps you too!
