Hello FatSecreters! I'm Jess... I'm 33 yrs old, happily married, and have two beautiful boys (14 & 5 yrs old). I love Jehovah, and although I'm far from perfect, I try my best to live up to His standards. I came across this site while trying to find ideas on how to lose weight, and it has turned out to be the best tool yet in my weight loss journey.

Now for the health stuff... I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in March 2012, and ever since then I have continually packed on the weight. I started out at 140 and now I'm up to 192, which makes me miserable! I'm tired all the time, always stressed out, and have zero energy, which makes it hard to get motivated to exercise. I've read that hypo patients do well on low carb diets, so I'm doing Atkins. I have a huge sweet tooth so I know it's going to be rough at first, but I'm determined to lose this weight! I'm just gonna take it one day at a time :)

Update 5/1/16: Current weight, 160 lbs... Low carb seems to be the most effective way (for me) to lose weight. I've cut sugar and gluten from my diet, and the difference is amazing. Not only am I losing weight, I also have more energy and less brain fog. My skin is much clearer as well.

Before and After, anyone?
This is such a great thread! Very motivating! I don't have any before and after pics yet, but when I do I'll be sure to post them. This thread has been going for quite some time, just wanted to comment so we can keep it going...

Popcorn is also a weakness of mine. I love it! I can't eat the stuff they make at movie theaters, though. It makes me so sick! I have to pop my own and then sneak it in. I also sneak in sugar snap peas and celery... But don't tell anyone 😈

Dang it, Oliver! Why'd you have to go and knock coffee and butter, my two favorite things?! So much truth to it, though. I guess those are to me what pasta is to you 😉 I love your posts, they are very truthful and informative. It's funny how so many people truly don't understand what "junk" is. It's not just twinkles and cokes... True story- My friend's husband is trying to lose weight. The other day she told me she was finally able to get him to stop drinking sodas. I said, "Oh, great! Did he start taking a water bottle?" She said, "No way, he hates water, but he switched to kool-aid, which is sooo much better than sodas..."
I thought my head was going to explode, lol! I tried to explain how kool-aid is just as bad, but it's like talking to a brick wall. I may not eat perfectly every second of the day, but I'm definitely not blind to what processed foods, sugar, etc. can do to your body.

There's so many diets and rules and opinions out there regarding weight loss, but honestly I think it's rather simple. Stop eating junk, and increase physical activity.
