I am a 53 year old woman that teaches school. I formerly trained horses full time and ran an equestrian education program and was in excellent shape from riding all day or walking many hours a day in sand while I taught riding. Unfortunately going back to full time teaching in the past 10 years has not been the most healthy decision. It began when I broke my leg while riding, while pregnant and I was excellent at maintaining my eating habits but was not able to keep up the normal activity levels. I never have returned to my pre-baby weight and she is 13 years old! I wish to lost 30 pounds, to get back in shape and get back seriously riding and showing again before it is too late! I now have the perfect place to live. A B & B with a swimming pool and indoor riding, and plan to get others motivated to join me in my journey to re-invent myself! Definitely some lifestyle engineering about to happen here in central Alberta!

Training and riding horses
Many people don't believe how much weight you can lose and the muscle you can gain with some serious riding. Catch the horse, un-blanket (I am in Canada), groom, clean feet, tack up (western saddles 35 pounds, English lighter), warm up myself and the horse, horse yoga for both of us, flexing and bending, then a half hour of serious maneuvers and work on balance, suppleness, correctness of movements, position, lengthening, stretching, collection, cool out. Untacking and re-grooming. re-blanketing, turn out. Generally a ride is at least 500 calories, throw some hay, grain and check water, check fences, tack up someone else horse for them (good weight work outs too)
Then we end up on "horse time" and forget to eat ...intermittent fasting and riding an hour a day will get you in shape. Now I just need to go and do it! lol! That is part of my spring challenge work out...in 6 days!

Lifestyle re-engineering program!
I am re-engineering my life and want my body back in shape! I am joining the spring challenge in 6 days. I am new and will be focused on a combination of The Bulletproof diet, The Atkins diet and The 7 years younger books. Basically low carb, lots of veggies, (like Ideal Protein, which works great for a short term but is expensive, tastes like crap) I need a life change catalyst. I need to first develop, then maintain a healthy athlete's body that I once had and wish to have again at 53! Longterm! Here I go Smile

Gaining on 800 cal/day
If you have her read Atkins and the Bulletproof diet books this will give her the info to correct this issue. It does come down to carbs and metabolism. I have to agree if every single thing is tracked seriously and a person is taking in enough fresh veggies and meat to get the metabolism moving, 800 calories is very low. There is a to more to it though and these books have a lot of great info.
