After all the back problems I finally got that resolved with the nerve procedure. It really worked well, which suprised me. I can finally walk the golf course again get some exercise - and could do so the day after the procedure. BG is staying well under control, and I am still taking Metformin, although I cannot honestly say I am getting any benefit from it, at least in terms of BG control. It is early days there however. I have essentially met my weight loss goals for the first 3 months of 25 lbs - not going to quibble about a lb., esp. since I had all the back trouble and couldn't hardly walk for 2 months.
A1c test results were back at 6.35, which is BS, and I don't mean blood sugar. If I had known before I took that mail order thing what I know now I would never had done it. Those things are very inaccurate. Will get regular test at lab when I have my 6 month blood work done in about 3-4 weeks. Am expecting an a1c in the mid to low 5's. Probably have high cholestrol, but am hoping the hdl component will be up, the ldl down, and the tri's way down. we'll see.

I knew that my weight last week was high and would show up as a greater loss this week, and it did. That's 25 lbs. so far and some to go, but this is working well. My BG readings are very good and stable without wild swings, and I will be very interested in my A1c test results, which should be along in about 2 weeks or so. I should definately be down in the 5% range, since I was 6.2 the last time. I wonder if I can get down to the upper 4% range, which would be truely a non-diabetic score. Probably not without a great deal of very hard work and more control that I would be willing to exercise. The 5% range is generally recognized to be a very safe spot in terms of diabetic complications, and I will settle for that I think. It is also becoming apparent that having a weight a little greater than the so called advertised ideal is more healthy. So I am thinking in terms of 210 to 220 rather than 190 as my eventual goal.
Hopefully I can get down to 220 by the first of July.

Was three lbs. lighter yesterday morning at weighin- didn't overeat, etc. so don't know where that came from - but not worried about it. Will show up next week. They stick needles in my back tomorrow for the lower back pain. At least that will begin the process. At least 3 weeks till any sort of relief other than temporary - tired of living on pain pills. Start Metformin on Tuesday, and unsure how to do this and keep the tight control I have on the BG right now. Back to using some novalog to cover the carbs, and it is working well. Still taking 25 units Lantus, but moved it up to 2pm. My DP seems to occur about 3-6pm each day. More work needed to define that better. Hopefully the Metformin will eleminate the DP problem altogether. When I get things stable again with Metformin I will add R insulin to cover the protein. Then maybe I can eliminate/reduce the Lantus and Novalog.
