06 April 2015

Last Monday was a day off, so I posted my weight and ran out the door without saying a word about the doctor's appointment. When I saw the diabetes doctor on 3/26 I was down 5kg for the month and both my blood sugar numbers were down to just a hair above the normal range. Very psyched about the progress.
This week I stuck to the diet plan, but I have been experiencing more hunger than I have up until now. It may just be boredom. One of the hardest things about Atkins for me is the lack of crunchy foods. After four weeks on induction, I've moved on to the OWL phase and I've added wonderful crunchy nuts to my plan, a quarter cup at a time.
One thing I do need to work on is I've been missing trips to the gym, here and there. It's always the easiest thing in the world to come up with a reason for not going to the gym. But my experience over the past couple of months clearly demonstrates that weight loss is the combination of diet and exercise.

The story so far...
So back in October, I finally made it to the diabetes doctor and had my blood sugar tested. It was shockingly high. The doctor put me on some meds and I decided I needed to get serious about losing weight.
I jumped back on the SlimFast diet, but stopped using the SlimFast products since they seem to be awfully high in sugar. I was quite vigilant, and initially lost seven pounds over a couple of weeks, but after another three weeks, I had only lost one more pound.
At that point I decided to give Atkins another try. Again, I was very careful about keeping my carbs down, but still only lost two pounds over the next month.
At that point my motivation started to slip and I didn't keep to either plan. In January I started back at the gym two or three times a week, so I was finally getting a good amount of exercise, but not sticking to a diet. Happily I didn't gain more than a few pounds over the next two months.
Finally in March I managed to get the Atkins diet and my exercise routine coordinated and immediately started losing weight at a steady pace. I'm down over 12 pounds so far this month.
I'm feeling very positive. I haven't even been tempted to cheat this month and I've only missed two chances to get to the gym. I go to the doctor on Thursday, so I'm hoping my numbers are much improved. Peach blossoms are out and cherry blossoms are on the way. Life is good.
