upper abs
It depends on what you need. Working the upper abs won't "shed" anything from them because there is no such thing as spot reducing. However, if they are just muscle that needs toning, I agree with the bicycle style crunches.

Diet help
I agree with NCNOLE.

I don't see how you can be 185 pounds and eat 1,300 calories a day and not lose weight. Despite what all of the diet fads tell you, it really is all about calories in and calories burned.

What I have found is that in the winter I gain weight by DOING cardio. Cross country skiing is a great workout, but the more you workout, the more you want to eat. Its good to turn the fat pounds into muscle pounds, but that wouldn't happen at only 1,300 calories.
