Hello! My name is Karen. Welcome to my bio!

I'm a semi retired yoga teacher (I only teach 6 classes a week now instead of the 14 I did a few years ago). Even though I'm in good shape, it wasn't enough security to keep the "menopause weight gain bug" from attacking me! I gained 30 pounds almost right away. I am down 10 of those pounds, but want 15 more to leave this body!

I've been in the fitness industry since the early 80's and have trained many, many people in my career. I know what works for younger people, but not for my age group.

Anyone out there in my age group want to buddy up so we can be supporting friends for each other?

WEIGHT LOSS AND/OR MAINTENANCE
Hello All,

I'm fast learning maintenance is a goal for life. Not just the length of your life, but your life as it is right now.

Today is really all you have. Try this analogy: YESTERDAY is like a cancelled check (spent, marked void, maybe disposed of), TOMORROW is a promisory note (you don't have any guarantees it will be paid, but you do make a plan for it), TODAY is like cash in hand (you can use all 5 senses to realize it fully).

My point is this: today's choices in eating, your mood, how you present yourself....these are the only choices you have at hand.

SOOOO.........

TODAY I CHOOSE TO EAT ON MY PLAN
TODAY I GET TO CHOOSE GOOD MOOD OR BAD...I CHOOSE GOOD
TODAY I WANT TO DRESS ATTRACTIVELY AND TASTEFULLY
TODAY I CHOOSE TO BRING A SMILE TO SOMEONE ELSE

What will you choose today?

WEIGHT WATCHERS QUESTION.......
I follow the old points system, not points plus which was very confusing for me (I have a very busy day and simplify things whenever I can). Download the free app "Diet Points Calculator" to your phone....wonderful tool! This app nor this site here should not replace you writing all your points on paper. If you physically write it you own it! As for when you eat this or that or what plan is best for you.....the diet plan that works is the best one for you. I lost my 30 pounds and the most important piece of advice I can give you is to write it. You can put it in your computer or on your phone and it can be forgotten.....but if you always have your journal on the kitchen counter or on your person, it's always in your face.

Discussion Topic: Other than attention from men, has anyone noticed a change in the way people treat
It is unfortunate, indeed. I have been a fitness professional all my life and for most of my life I was fit and trim, looking like my clients want to look like. Then medications and menopause hit me and I gained 35 pounds, which I could not get off for the life of me! My client base went down and I lost several classes I'd been teaching for years. Since I lost that weight (hit that goal this past January) I have been offered 2 classes and 3 clients suddenly want me to work with them again! I am, and always was, the same person. But, I did not look the part so I had no value to them.

Yeah, I know, my weight loss shows I lost 3 pounds...I typed in something wrong somewhere!

Your Opinion?
I've been a fitness trainer for 30 years. I firmly believe in weight training with your cardio. Muscle is what helps you burn fat (increases metabolism). There was a great "diet" plan in the 80's called the rotation diet. You ate a certain number of calories for 3 days, then increased the number by a few hundred for 1 day. It confused your body and many of my people have lost lots of weight over the years!

Now I find, with hormonal changes after menopause, I will do the same thing. I need to add a little more muscle and go back to rotating.

In the past, I have just counted calories. What is your thought on that?
