I am here to find a tribe of health conscious seekers as I get down to my goal body one meal at a time.

My goal is authenticity, not perfection.

I will be 54 this year and I have struggled with my weight my whole life trying every diet starting with calorie restricting in my teens. I finally took the plunge into the Intermittent Fasting (IF) lifestyle April of 2021 after being terrified that I would "starve myself" but instead found freedom and peace with food and the additional benefit of steady weight loss.

I "delay, but don't deny" myself and the world is delicious and guilt free after decades of struggle, self hatred, guilt and yo-yo dieting.

After several months of IF, my body has gifted me with the holy grail of Appetite Correction and I can stop in the middle of a bite, close my "window" and then not eat again for 14-23 hours without missing a beat.

With all the extra time I have saved from not thinking about food, feeling guilty about food, not tracking food, not buying magic foods or cooking three squares a day, I can indulge more in my many interests: Satyananda Yoga (especially sun salutations!) hiking, rock collecting, meditation, reading and listening to books, writing, travel, vermicomposting, gardening, collaging, cooking, good coffee, taking care of myself, and of course, learning more about the IF lifestyle!!

A New Beginning
Awesome! Keto does not work for me long term, I just can't sustain it, but it is helpful for me to shake things up with my eating every once in a while.

You might also consider looking into WHEN you eat.

Intermittent Fasting (IF) is the health plan with the side effect of weight loss and I'm excited about the future!!

If you want info on the science of Intermittent Fasting, please read "The Obesity Code" or "The Diabetes Code" by Dr. Jason Fung. He also has a lot of YouTube Videos that you can watch for re-caps and information.

If you want a more down home approach to information, try reading one of Gin Stephen's books "Delay, Don't Deny" or "Fast, Feast, Repeat".

She has several podcasts which are great. I like "Intermittent Fasting Stories" best. Whenever I think I feel hungry, I just listen to one of those stories!

Obesity Virus?
They might be referring to damage to the gut microbiome that occurs when antibotics are taken.

Obesity is a disease of hormone and gut microbiome imbalance. Microbes in the gut break down many of the proteins, lipids and carbohydrates in our diet into nutrients that we can then absorb. Microbes also produce beneficial compounds, like vitamins and anti-inflammatories that our bodies cannot produce. Our (good) gut buddies can produce a lot of hormones including the happy hormones dopamine and seratonin. But we can ravage our gut microbiome with antibotics and poor food choices.

Obesity asl is also a disease of too much insulin in the blood stream all the time with our "six small meals a day" propaganda. Insulin is a fat storage hormone, so even if your run a calorie deficit, if you have too much insulin in your blood stream, your body will not be able to access your fat stores.

I have suffered from obesity my whole like, but I have experienced obtaining the "super powers" of appetite correction after practicing "intermittent fasting" since mid March. I've dropped 16 lbs without any extra exercise and with out changing what I eat, just when I eat it.

Having appetite correction means I can now finally just stop eating when I'm full, when previously I tried to stop after reaching a certain caloric amount and never had any long term success. My tastes are changing too, with a true desire for more greens and plant based foods. It's kind of weird. I'm still very overweight, but I finally feel like a skinny person who can easily take or leave food with no real effort and I know the weight loss will follow!

I can easily reject the crap food that used to haunt me.

So...don't be too hard on yourself. Many people will declare overweight people like me to be lazy or lack will power. But really, is there anyone with more will power that a person who tries so hard to do something that is seemingly impossible? Someone who’s actual life experience is that of failing and trying again and failing and trying again? Of being consumed with a desire that seems unattainable?

If I was lazy, I would have just given up.

We are all unique experiments of 1 trail subject, so what works for me, may not work for you.

But don't give up! I'm glad I didn't! Good luck.

I'm a "Spark People Refugee", newbie intermittent faster looking to connect with another like minded, health conscious tribe.

I'm just going to jump into the deep end and see if I sink or swim.
