I'm 40 and have realized that I'm not as healthy as I used to be and that I don't recover from illness or injury as quickly as I used to.

I've been okay with my weight for so long simply because it's never really prevented me from doing anything I wanted to do. I guess I've been lucky in that I've carried my weight well enough that I could still hike, swim, bike, canoe, dance, roller skate, etc. with my friends or kids whenever we wanted. And I never felt like I had to say no to any opportunity because of my weight.

But now winters are just brutal in terms of colds and illness. Each cold I get turns into a sinus infection/ear infection/bronchitis from hell. Each one leaves me knocked on my rear for a good week and costs me a month total in recovery. Really puts a damper on all those fun invitations I can't accept anymore because I'm too sick or weak to go.

So, I need to get healthy. And that starts with supporting my body and reducing the amount of work it has to do to just keep me alive.

Protein is the best thing I've found to stop hunger for me. I used to eat two packs of oatmeal, or one pack with a mashed banana and blueberries in it, and I'd still be hungry. But once I started adding a scoop of protein powder, or having some eggs in addition, it really helped me to feel full with less food.

I hear you on the being hesitant to send requests. I'm always afraid I'm going to come across like that occasional, creepy friend request on Facebook from a complete stranger.

Hi everyone! New to this site, but not to this merry-go-round of weight loss and regain. So this time I've accepted that maybe it really *is* better to have buddies to support you when you need it and call you out on your crap when you need that, too.

Problem is, I don't know anyone on here. So, if you need a buddy, let me know! Looking forward to making some new friends. Smile
