Sixty-one year retired Corrections Administrator. Have had heart disease and diabetes for 20 years. Gained a lot of weight in the last 5 years along with becoming a couch potato. Got to where I didn't want to walk to the edge on my property. That changed this year with a new Diabetic Dr. I weighed 316 lbs last August and on 7-30-08 I weighed 223.6 lbs. I also now walk 5 to 8 miles 7 days a week. I now need to start a life-style change that will maintain my weight when I reach a BMI of under 25 or 190lbs, which ever comes first. I have been on a low carb regime for the last year did not eat enough protein or salads.

Help Please
Don't get down on yourself, that will only promote more eating and thus weight gain. I truly believe that if you watch your carb intake and keep it around a 150, eat 3 meals a day and 3 snacks. The snack should be no more than 15 carbs and the meals no more than 40 carbs. Now if you add those up you will come up with more carbs than 150, so try to make some adjustments. You also need to control your proportion size. I found that if I got my plate and filled it up and then only ate half that it worked out fine. With all that said, I want you to know that I am not a doctor or a certified diet specialist. I am a poor type II diabetic that was eating myself into an early grave and I did what I thought was necessary to change things. This morning I was 3 lbs away from losing 100 lbs in the last year. Only 29 to go. I hope you find what will help you. There are many diets here that appear to work, but I truly believe until you accept that you want to make a life style change by dieting and getting exercise, nothing will help. Good luck and wishing you well.
