I was told to loose 10% of my body weight for cholesterol and high triglycerides, and a bum ankle. I gained weight after menopause (at 44) and through sedentary lifestyle due to a bad foot. I carry my weight around my waist, my whole family does so it's genetic, unfortunately. I'm doing the DASH diet for weight loss (whole foods, low fat, lean protein, small servings). My goal is to lose this in 6 months. I'm going to exercise at home, and I'm registered for weight/cardio classes at my gym, and hoping to get surgery on my foot (a year from now?). I've been off work all summer, so not my daily walking in a fast paced work environment. I haven't dieted before, I don't mind being on the heavier side. But with my foot and now symptoms of heart disease and arthritis, I want to stay as independent in my functional daily living as I can. And get fit!

Seeking to lower Cholesterol while having low Carb Diet
I should add, my Dr. didn't specify low carb, but did say to give up cheese and dairy (a staple in my diet). And to eat less meat.

Seeking to lower Cholesterol while having low Carb Diet
Quit smoking if you do, smoking raises your ldl and lowers your hdl. And regular physical activity, even 30 mins twice a day. Good luck, I'm in the same boat so lifestyle factors are under my control, the rest I'm powerless over, it is what it is.

ENCOURAGEMENT POST: Reversed T2 Diabetes & Almost at Weight Goal
Thank you. I started my diet because I was becoming afraid of getting type 2 Diabetes. I have thin arms and legs, but carry all my weight in my mid section as well. I gained about 5 pounds a year after menopause, and had to give up my rich treats like chocolate, cheese, most dairy as well. My family all have the same shape as I do, beer belly or pregnant type figure. It's hard to lose this weight that accumulates around the torso! Your post encourages me, some great tips to try when things stall, or slow down as they have the last 2 months.
