Been on track all week! The food is delicious. I don't feel like I am missing out on anything... Except Rosemary Sourdough Bread... I do miss that. Cleared the kitchen of high carb foods and none of it even sounded appetizing. I had weird food dreams last night. I never dream about food! In the first I was eating an apple fritter and it got me that I was eating something with flour and sugar... And then I relaxed and thought to myself that it was worth it and I would just get right back on track. In the 2nd dream I was eating veggies, cheese and dip and then suddenly there were crackers and I just kept eating them... Thinking to myself they were "meh" but I just kept eating them anyway and feeling disappointed that I was choosing that.

It's amazing what food you realize has a natural sweetness when you've cut out sugar. The tomatoes and mini sweet peppers weren't a surprise but cabbage and mushrooms were!

My fasting glucose numbers continue to be under 200. Which I am super happy about. And also look forward to them continuing the downward trend. Lost just over half a pound... Calling that a win as well! And a NSV is that my resting heart rate has been down from mid to high 80's and now in the high 50's low 60's. Which, if I understand correctly, is an indicator of better fitness and heart health!

My sleep is a WIP... But it always has been.

Restarting... Again!

I have been so off track for far too long. I did quit smoking Dec 9th which I am super psyched about! It will be 6 months on my girlies birthday!!!

I am more than ready to work on my overall health and wellness!!!

I am recommitting to my goal of reversing Type 2 diabetes.

May 7: committed to consistently checking/recording fasting glucose. Found my glucose meter and got out all testing supplies.

May 14: committed to recording food and working towards low carb way of eating. Educating myself on low carb, LCHF, Keto and IF. Got new set of measuring cups & spoons. Got reacquainted with Fatsecret.

May 18: committed to exercising 30 min 3x/week. Looked at exercise videos on YT and picked a Walking Down Your Blood Sugar exercise video to do that is about 35 min and did it right there and then.

May 22: committed to weighing 1x/week and ordered a new scale

How have I been doing so far?

5/7-5/23: checked FG 15 out of 17 days! Fasting numbers have been on a steady decline from 289 down to 174!

5/14-5/23: have recorded food 10 out of 10 days. Shopped for low carb food. Have been decreasing daily carbs increasing fat and mindful of protein portions. Got a "Super Enzymes" supplement that includes ox bile salts to help process the increase in fat consumption without a gallbladder as well as better overall nutrient absorption. Appetite and cravings are down. Feeling good!

5/18-5/23: have done the Walking Down Your Blood Sugars video 5 out of 6 days so far. Took a break on Saturday and regretted it. Feeling like I want to do it every day. It is easier for me to lock in the habit if I consistently do the activity every day. Fasting numbers began going down right away when I started doing the daily workout. At this time the workout is about perfect for my level. "brisk walk" with some other basic aerobic movements and basic yoga thrown in.

5/22-5/23: scale arrived and weighed myself. The last time I weighed in was last summer and I was 266.2 lbs. Am now 276.4... A 10 lb gain in the last year of being fairly sedentary. I was a little disappointed to see the gain even though it was totally not surprising.

What I am aiming for:

Normal a1c and no meds: At my doc's appointment last year my a1c had gone back up from around 8 to 11.4... and they were talking about wanting to start me on insulin or additional diabetes meds. Which I declined. My first big goal is to see those numbers go down and in to a range where the talk of additional meds is no longer a thing... then to get to a point that I can discontinue the Metformin.

Weight: I am not entirely certain where I want this number to land. I think any where from 180-220 would be comfortable based on my past experience. But ultimately the number I want to see is the one that comes along with reversal of the T2 diabetes as well as healthy cholesterol. Feeling more comfortable in my body and more "able".

Physical Fitness: short term... being able to comfortably walk to the bank and other places around town. Longer term... I really want to be at a fitness level that allows me to do real hikes out in nature... Not just a walk through Whatcom Falls.

Pictures of front and side "beginning" as well as a shot after my 2nd workout.
