Age 64, female, in relationship; diagnosed Type 1 Insulin Dependent Diabetic 11/87, age 33. For 2-3 years my A1C had been 7.7. A year ago it went up to 8.3, then 8.1 and stuck there. My significant other used to own a bakery/donut shop. He made sweets weekly or biweekly. I've always been a "comfort" eater. The snacks lived on top of the microwave and I heat multiple cups of coffee per day. It was easy to eat a cookie...or multiples thereof while the coffee heated. After my December Endocrinologist appointment I decided 31 loosely controlled years is enough. I changed my diet, but my A1C is still 8.1. Endo says too much bread (yes, other than sweets my true vice is bread!) I am close to the right weight (4 lbs to go) but I have low blood sugar daily/nightly. Have to work on diet with protein, lots of non-starchy veggies, some fruit and and smaller serving daily of starchy vegetables. I make paper beads and doodle for relaxation; we have a 4-year-old, 15 lb. Chi mix named Ethel who is my constant companion.
