"How closely followed? 100%" -- today, that is!

I'm so glad for all the comments and suggestions, you guys! The next "slip" is right around the corner if we're not vigilant and, along with it, the binges and weight gain.

Friday and Saturday were still off track, although I did take my medications religiously. With all the sugars and starches onboard, *eating* terrible, I *felt* terrible: joint and body aches and fatigue, especially. It's been a long time since I felt so BLECH -- a stark reminder of how detrimental that kind of eating is for me. Not to mention what it does to my blood sugar and weight.

Speaking of weight, I hit 216 pounds again this morning. My pattern, in the past, has been to keep bingeing till I hit 225 or 230 or 235. I'm not going there again. I fought so hard to get under 207. Now, I have to do it again. So freekin' boring, not to mention discouraging.

Today's food-and-medication regimen has been spot-on: Fat 77.53g, Carbs 13.62g, Fiber 3.8g, Prot 63.20g, Calories 1023. It's a relief to have put a full day between me and that period of poor choices. It's so important to begin again, and without further delay.

Beginning tomorrow, I'm returning to 18:6 IF and mostly carnivore (dairy-free, and under 20g carbs/day coming from a few vegetables and occasionaly raspberries). Knowing what works, and having done it well, I commit again to taking care of myself.

11 October 2019

About two weeks ago, I thought I'd have myself a little "treat" and bought a 12-pack of A&W Diet Root Beer. (Root beer, birch beer, and cream soda -- all diet, of course -- are faves of mine.) I got another 12-pack a bit later. And today, I was at Target and bought a bottle in the check out line.

I haven't been drinking diet soda of any kind since the end of December, more than nine months ago but, in the past few weeks, my sweet tooth has been acting up and, well, all this week, I've indulged it. BIG TIME. And not only on candy.

Today, I dug out a bag of instant mashed potatoes -- "Makes 4 half-cup servings" -- yeah, right -- had the entire thing, with butter, and then ate dinner. (My meatloaf was fantastic!)

Then, I had to run an errand. Along the way, I bought and ate a "share-size" bag of M&Ms (which I did not share) and a Twix quad-pack. Then, I stopped to get my husband his requested Enlightened ice cream and just had to buy myself some. Only they didn't have any flavors I really liked, so I bought a 13-oz. "pint" of Baskin-Robbins mint chocolate chip ice cream. The real stuff.

It's Friday, 12:55 a.m., and I tucked in another helping of meatloaf. Sweet dreams, Mira!

Oh, brother!

I'm not logging any of this in my food diary. I just don't wanna. It's ugly enough writing it all out here.

So, no more diet soda for me. It's not that I really missed it anyway, and it definitely has had a detrimental effect on my discipline. Back to just water, which I really don't mind.

During the day, I'm constantly on the phone, with this volunteer thing I do. It's the "silly season," when the courses start up and all my retired compadres are trying to figure out this thing called "streaming video." Well, I can more than sympathize:

I recently bought a new Vizio 24-inch "smart" TV for my little office. Almost-the-bottom-of the line of a brand but plenty of TV for me! The picture on this 1080p thing is amazing! And it's not even "SuperHD" or whatever they call it now.

Did you know that these devices now come pre-programmed for access to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and subscription TV thingies I've never even heard of?! All I had to do was input my Netflix and Amazon Prime passwords and I was up and running! And the DishTV guy came a replaced my dead dinosaur receiver with a smaller, cuter one.

I also got a "companion" Vizio 20-inch soundbar. My room is just ten-by-eleven feet, holds my big, comfy La-Z-Boy recliner and is lined with groaningly-full bookshelves, a side table, and a desk and storage ottoman that doubles as my desk chair. Given the dimensions of the room and the furniture load in it, the DishTV guy advised that anything larger would blow me out a window. (I was glad for the input.) Dang if I can figure out how to get more out of the "smart" soundbar beyond a loud buzz!

I think I've out-"smarted" myself, maybe having finally aged beyond my pre-set tech-adjustability range.

So, helping people figure out online video streaming, and setting up my replacement computer and printer, and now trying to figure out this TV/soundbar combination, I'm not paying enough attention to proper eating. This week, it caught up to me.

Besides that, today, I never took any of my diabetes medications. Am I surprised that my just-tested serum glucose is 274 mg/dL? Definitely "BS" in more ways than one! And I have other meds I'm supposed to take daily (levothyroxine, carvedilol, and duloxetine for thyroid, heart, and neuropathy issues, respectively) that I missed today. This is not good.

Not to mention what this has done to my weight this week, as the fat cells just love "bulking up" on carbs! It's going to be ugly at the scale tomorrow morning: lots of good ol' fashioned "wailing and gnashing of teeth."

As I've said before, if I get drawn away from my meal planning and FS journaling, I lose track of my health goals and start indulging in foods that are ... not "bad" -- but not "health-supporting" either.

Time to refocus my priorities on the most important things: eating to my diabetes-control/reversal and weight-loss goals.

Making progress! I'm so busy lately that I don't have time to eat, or think about snacking and sweets.

I'm not doing an extended fast as I'd planned for this week, but I'm doing IF 16:8 and have gone almost totally "carnivore." My daily carbs are under 10g, and often under 5g.

I'm also freezing our leftover morning coffee in ice cube trays and making an iced-coffee "smoothie" with Califia coconut milk and a little chocolate-flavored stevia. It's my own "Frappuccino" for just a pennies and almost no carbs or calories!

Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino: I used to buy a "grande" or "vente" -- the "diet" version (not the artificially sweetened version, just no whipped cream LOL!). Never again! The "official" nutrition info is different from what the FS food facts show, and this is without whipped cream! Here's the truth! Read it and weep!
"Tall" (12 oz.) - 290 cal., 11g fat, 44g carb, 1g fiber, 4g protein.
"Grande" (16 oz.) - 410 cal., 15g fat, 65g carb, 1g fiber, 5g protein.
"Venti" (24 oz.) - 520 cal., 17g fat, 84g carb, 2g fiber, 7g protein

INGREDIENTS -- Frozen water is the first ingredient! This stuff is so cheap for Starbucks to make!
"Ice, Milk, Coffee Frappuccino Syrup [Sugar, Water, Salt, Natural And Artificial Flavors, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid], Coffee, Whipped Cream [Cream (Cream, Mono And Diglycerides, Carageenan), Vanilla Syrup (Sugar, Water, Natural Flavors, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid)], Mocha Sauce [Water, Sugar, Cocoa Processed With Alkali, Natural Flavor]"
