In 2006 I decided that I needed to be more mindful of what I ate. Oddly, that’s when my weight started to creep up. Over the next seven years I went from a size 8 to a size 18, up to a maximum of 12st 7lb. I tried calorie counting, Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, Diet Chef, going to the gym, jogging, cycling. Nothing made any lasting change.

There was no real “turning point”, I didn’t have an epiphany or try a different approach that made all the difference. In May 2013 one of my friends got married, it was a great day and I was thrilled to bits for him, especially with the excitement of my own wedding to look forward to. However, when it came to looking at all the photos online my thoughts were “Yuck”. There wasn’t a single photo with me in that I could look at and think “That’s nice.”

I decided to have another go at losing weight. I wasn’t expecting success; I didn’t take any before photos. If I didn’t loose weight I was hoping I could prove to a doctor that I was doing what I should be and so they could investigate into what was wrong with me. So I followed the NHS 12-week weight loss guide.

It worked. I don’t know why, after all my failed attempts, but after twelve weeks I had not only lost a couple of pounds but eight, over half a stone. Yes, my weight had weeks where it went up and not down, but it was more weight loss than I’d ever managed, let along maintained, before.

As of August 2014, I am half way to my ideal BMI weight. (Don’t worry; I’m swapping to measuring by body fat percentage as soon as my BMI is back into the healthy range). I am a size 12 and have lost 2st and 2lb, it has been slow going, it still is, but somehow I am still losing weight.

There are times I’ve felt so estranged from who I thought I was, I love food, I love drink but now I don’t even miss the food and drink I used to consume just because they were yummy. It’s weird to think that this healthier person is me, but I hope I can keep it up.

Fast Metabolism Diet - Recipe Portions
I'm looking for FMD gurus to help me with my portions. Unfortunately, it seems this diet is 'old' and the dedicated forums aren't that active.

I've been dutifully pre-cooking my meals for the week and there are two I've made so far that just don't make sense:

http://hayliepomroy.com/garden-meatballs/
Including...
1/3 cup chile paste, thinned with 2 tablespoons Bragg’s Liquid Aminos
2 7-oz. can diced mild green chiles

Really? THAT many chilies? I've followed the recipe but wow it's hot. It seems odd that when you're trying to promote a diet you'd have a recipe that would exclude people due to the heat.

This dish is supposed to serve two, but 1 cup of qunioa was enough of split the meal into two salad bowls.

Am I missing something? I've never had a problem with following recipes before, but now I'm wondering if the website is quoting quantities for the food in a different state than I anticipated.

Does it perhaps mean 1 cup cooked quinoa and not to cook 1 cup of quinoa (which I'd guess was closer to 3 cups once cooked). How can I find out how to follow these recipes, they don't make sense :S

Ezcema vs. Exercise
Thank you, I'll have a try.

I already use Fairy detergent because it's meant to be good for delicate skin.

I haven't been diagnosed specifically but I had eczema when I was little and it seems to be the same. The eczema shape is definitely bra-shaped. Unfortunately, I'm a weird size so don't have many options for sports bras, I'll definitely do some research into cotton though

Ezcema vs. Exercise
My current "healthy routine" is Capoeria on Tuesdays, Zumba on Wednesdays, and Pole on Thursdays. In each one I work up quite a sweat.

I recently made the connection between my sweaty work outs and the ezcema that had broken out on my back, in the shape of my sports bra!

I don't want to give up on my classes, I enjoy them, and, although it's slow going, I really am feeling the benefit of them. However, sometimes the ezcema is so bad a little scratch can start it bleeding. I need to do 'something', but showering and moisturising doesn't seem to be enough.

Does anyone else have this problem? Have you been able to clear the ezcema up, or have any tips on how to prevent a breakout?

Motivation plateau
I've been struggling to see any regular weight loss recently. It's not because I've hit a normal plateau, I'll put my hands up and admit that I haven't been as healthy as I could be.

I had so much control and focus before Christmas - I managed a whole week where every single day I stayed below my calorie limit. However, due to various obstacles/(excuses) I haven't been able to get back on track.

I've tried sticking to my limit again, I've tried upping my limit a bit and sticking to that. I've tried exercising more, I've tried focusing on one good day a week, followed by two with the aim to take small, supposedly easy, steps back to seven good days a week. I've tried cutting crisps, one of my usual weaknesses, out from lunches. Whatever I try I can't seem to stick with long enough to see my 1lb drop off each week.

I'm thinking of doing the Forever Living 9-day detox, but I'm wary that it's a fad and may not be maintable. It may be worth it if it gives me the boost to get on track though.

What do you think? Did you have a motivation plateau? How did you overcome it?

I've come so far, half-way to my target. I don't want to give up, but I'm not sure what to try next.

Weight loss and identity
Well, perhaps I'll never get that 'comfortable in my own skin feeling', but I do feel better over little things. Resting my hand on my hip the other day, while I waited for the kettle to boil, I thought I felt a bit more definition there than I remembeted Smile
