My name is Abigail and I am a 23-year-old female. I have been a pescatarian for 9 years and have been generally healthy during that time (working out, watching what I each for the most part). I have become interested in nutrition over the past year when I realized that I was developing intolerance to dairy and gluten after years of heavy reliance on processed foods and carbs and my main sources of calories. I am now following a modified 16:8 Intermittent Fasting (IF) plan paired with a low-dairy, low-gluten, whole-foods-based diet. Once a month I do a 24-48 hr water fast to help boost metabolism and promote growth hormones for muscle gain.

Intermittent Fasting (IF) for women
Hey all!

I am new to Fat Secret and am looking for advice on a new diet I have been trying, which is 16:8 IF (in which you fast for 16 hours with an 8 hour eating window). There seem to be many studies showing that fasting has beneficial effects, at least for men. However, I have heard mixed facts about IF for women due to the effects it has on hormone levels and insulin sensitivity. I feel very good when I fast and would like to continue, but I wanted to see if there any women out there who have followed IF and if so, were there any negative health side effects that you experienced?
