59 yo mother of five and grandmother to one. I have lived in Alaska since 1995, but don't ski or snowboard. So, it was hard to keep up my walking exercise routine. I was 145 lbs when I arrived in the state and weighed at 220 lbs on April 30, 2010. Back then, I was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes (doctor put me back on high blood pressure medicine), high bad cholesterol, low good cholesterol, and high sugar. I lost 55 lbs, but after my hysterectomy in 2013 I started putting weight back on Right now I am probably back up to 190. In the past year I started having more back problems - I had (years ago) been diagnosed with arthritis, but now a vertebrae is slipping causing pain. It happens when I do anything - walks, up/down stairs, sweeping floors, changing positions in a chair or in bed. I was diagnosed with lumbar spondylosis which is now in addition to the arthritis. Now I need to lose the weight and bring my eating back to healthy and help reduce the load for my back.

I am anemic, too, and my doctor has me on two iron pills a day. Remember, though, that in order for your body to actually get the iron, you have to consume some Vitamin C daily as well. Try drinking a little orange juice with your iron. Be aware that orange juice has more carbs than you would think. I would also suggest you keep some carbs in your diet and eat red meat (low in carbs) and spinach (high in iron).
