It is time for a new profile. As many of you know, I am a retired engineer, a proud Scot, living just north of our capital, Edinburgh, in “the Kingdom” of Fife. I am married, with a son, a daughter, two step-daughters, two grandsons and two step-grandsons.
After losing 89 lbs, between May 2015 and October 2016 I lost my way. I had actually started to falter a few months earlier, after a spell in hospital, but in the autumn I lost motivation, drive and spirit. I managed to keep some control until July 17 when we had a big celebration planned, but after that, things went to pot, and I have now put half the weight back on.
I am now starting afresh, counting and recording my calories. I am trying to choose Fat and Protein over Carbohydrates. And what has made me clamber back on the wagon? Firstly the support of the friends I have made on Fat Secret, but also the fact I disposed of all my “fat” clothes and am now struggling to get into the new togs! Wish me luck.
Happy weight loss to you all.

How much salt a day?
I have BP issues but never give salt a second thought. I don't go mad for it, but I certainly don't try to keep it out of my food stuffs.

Looking for buddies who are doing or trying low carb diey
"Good Calories, Bad Calories" (sold here in the UK as "The Diet Delusion", which I read first) is the full version. "Why We Get Fat: And What To Do About It" is a "Lite" version, aimed at the general populace. Both contain the same basic info, just the second is a lot easier to read.

At the bottom of your food diary page there is a link "Set your recommended daily intake". Calculate your RDI. In the box "Save your RDI" type the value you want to use and save.

grams of sugar
Sugar is a Carbohydrate. 1 gm sugar IS 1 gm of Carbohydrate. You want to avoid sugar all together and get what Carbs you do consume from healthy foodstuffs. You can eat 10 gms of Macadamia nuts and only consume 1.4 gms of Carbohydrate.
