I just turned 37, and am needing to watch my diet and lose weight due to elevated blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, and triglyserides. Lets just say my last set of bloodwork hated me...lol. So now, it is time to get busy getting healthier.

I love going to the gym...when I have time. I am needing to make the time. I am just an imperfect person trying to become better and healthier.

Well, I'm convinced...
For me tracking and accountability is the key. Having a good friend to look at you and honestly give encouragement or a reality check is so good. I also enjoy the challenges, because I love a competition--even if it is against myself. Love this site and the great information that is here!!!

are ellipticals any good? or do they suck?
I have one at home but prefer using the ones at the gym. I love working out on the ellipticals there. Mine at home is a short stride and has a choppy stair climber kind of feel. I will use it in a pinch when I can't make it to the gym. Purchased mine after Christmas about 3 years ago--and it was more than half off. Hope some of this info helps.

neeed new tips!
My best friend for working out is my ipod. I occasionally will program a workout playlist, and use it when I am on cardio equipment. Also, I go to the gym, and they will have challenges from time to time. That throws in a bit of competition for me. Since I am so overweight, I work twice as hard to make sure I can "hang" with the people who are in shape in the challenges. That way I am accountable to others and competing with myself.

As far as my eating, I try to put in what I will eat each morning, and come back and adjust if i stray from the track I have set for the day. This allows me to see what I am doing before I do it. It also helps me keep to the plan.

As for me, I have had issues with my blood sugar running high--so I have a physical reminder of what "not tracking" causes in my life. Having to prick my finger (now twice a day) is a good reminder of how not controlling my blood sugar will impact my life. I have a picture of what life with diabetes could be like, and I am working my tail off to try my best to prevent it.

For me, I had to have a wake up call--and once I got it (thank God that call came before a diagnosis of diabetes), I started watching my diet and exercise. Just set goals and stick to them. For me, that is what works.
