I am a college professor at a small, private university in the SE USA. I run/walk 6 days a week so I stay fit! I love chocolate, for better or for worse! I read a ton and go to movies. I travel all over the world but I have not yet been to the Far East.

My eating disorder
I have attended 3 OA meetings now. After realizing I am a binge eater, I decided to begin to recover. I have been 3 weeks without chocolate but in my horrible thinking I still consume sugar. I think: If I don't take in chocolate, I can then take in sugar (cookies, fudge, etc.). My weight is not fluctuating much and I continue to run 4x a week; I am running in a 5K tomorrow! Smile This is all pretty scary. BUT I took that first step to get into a recovery program.
This all started when it occurred to me that I was hiding food in my car, buying large quantities of chocolate and cookies and eating them from the package as I was driving, sneaking food into my house, keeping food in my desk at work, sneaking bits and pieces from the work fridge, etc. etc. Maybe you know what I am talking about. Please reach out if you do. I am looking for support. At the OA meetings, it is relieving to hear stories like mine. I binge but now I can begin to recover.

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
Once a week. I get hooked on things easily, and so I steer clear of getting my mind wrapped around the number on the scale!

Thanks for the ideas, mrfancypants! I'm still finding my own with this diet/fasting thing, although I have been a runner for the past 30 years. I think my challenge is the "good eating" part! Thanks for the link too!

Hello! and a favor to ask
Hey everybody! I am enjoying participating in this forum! Reading all your posts helps me a great deal! I enjoy my two fast days (I take in no more than 600 cals on Tues and Friday each week) and my weight is steady. I am at 180 and my goal is 175. Why are those "last" 5 pounds the peskiest? I weigh in each Saturday. I run 4x a week, usually 4.5 miles first, then intervals and I go up to 55 minutes. My problem? Processed sugars: candy and cookies are my kryptonite. And now that Girl Scout cookies are for sale almost everywhere I go? As the pirate says, AAAAAARGGGH. Any suggestions for steering away or at least lowering my processed sugar, greatly appreciated. Also, how to cut down carbs? Have a nice weekend! Here in Western NC it was 75 yesterday and tonight it will be 26.
