I have spent most of my adult life slowly gaining weight a few pounds a year at first. A couple of years ago, I crept really close to 200, that scared me, I don't want to keep getting heavier I thought. I found a trainer followed his advice for over 6 months and only lost 5 lbs. His comment was I put on a lot of muscle though, didn't make me feel any better. I had also tried a strict calorie diet (close to 1200 calories per day) watching what I eat, etc. plus working out regularly for almost a year, I gained almost 10 lbs that year.

I knew something wasn't quite right, even with eating well, my cholesterol was gaining ground on me too. I have found a Dr/program that is working for me. I don't detail it out here, because there are a lot of things that I need to follow that are not listed here and I would hate for someone to pick up what I have been doing and expect to lose weight the same way. Everyone is unique.

Diet Soda's - Do they slow you down?
@ awilker: Those would be symptoms associated with aspartame poisoning. Read the site from ThinEd on aspartame. It will take up to 30 days with no aspartame to get it out of your system. It also causes joint aches, headaches and decreased absorbtion of some nutrients.

Diet Soda's - Do they slow you down?
The only natural low calorie sweetner I have found is Stevia (from the carnation plant family). Whole Foods has a line of diet sodas called Trevia (sp) that are sweetned with Stevia. I don't drink them, my husband does and he has none of the side effects of the other artifical sweetners. There is a cola, lemon-lime, ginger-ale and I think a rootbeer. Again, I can't tell you anything about them personally as I don't drink them, my husband does.

What aren't you carrying around anymore?
To date I am down 34 almost 35 lbs. I could think of it in so many ways, I love the hot dogs and butter same with ice cream or cans of soda pop. All the things I don't have any more. I still have that much more to lose.

18-years-old and battling obesity.
do you still take thyroid medication? the basics can be looked at during a routine physical with blood work. I agree with forgetfull too. Start eating very healthy. Avoid as much processed food as possible. go as fresh as you can, no frozen dinners, no fast food, etc. just to get the excess sodium out of your diet. that should start at least some weight loss and working out is also a good thing, both cardio and strength training.
