I used to be in great shape. I was an athlete (soccer and swimming) and never had to worry about what I ate. Then I hurt my back and was unable to exercise (even walking caused intense pain) for eight years. The combination of a sedentary lifestyle and PCOS caused rapid weight gain. Now after three surgeries I am finally able to work out again and after working with an endocrinologist I've learned what I can and can't eat with PCOS (low carb, low sugar). I am getting married in June next year to a wonderful man who has helped me in ways I could never imagine and I would love to be back to a healthy weight for our wedding.

Booze - To count or not to count?
I would say it's up to you, according to my nutritionist:

4oz of wine
1oz of liquor
12oz of beer

Despite their different caloric levels are the equivilent of 10g of fat per serving based on how your body processes the alcohol. Something to keep in mind.

does green tea help with weight loss???
Hi, there are several studies that have been done on the effects of green tea and weight loss. The antioxidant EGCG is what is linked to weight loss and the recommended consumption is between 300-700mg of EGCG daily. You can drink green tea (unsweetened) to do this or there are EGCG supplements you can take. I'm not a professional so I would talk to your doctor before begining any new supplements.

A good resource for more information can be found here: http://greenteaweightlossinfo.com/green-tea-extract-dosage-whats-the-right-amount-for-weight-loss/

what is the best way to wean off pain meds?
What kind of pain medication are you taking, if you don't mind me asking?

Most prescription pain killers cannot be stopped suddenly so you should talk to your doctor about stepping you down gradually with smaller doses.

Hope that helps.

can taking pain meds influence your weight?
It depends on the pain medication. OTC stuff probably not. But a lot of the prescription pain medication will. Look at the manufactuer's website it may or may not say weight gain, but if it lists edema as a side effect that means "swelling caused by retained fluids" which will make you look and be heavier as well. Before and after my back surgeries I was on several medications that caused weight gain. Especially if you are on steroids for a prolonged period of time to reduce inflammation and pain...yuck...I have been pain med free for six months (yay!) and I have noticed changes (though they probably went hand in hand with my weight loss) for example my engagement ring is now so big it falls off. My fiance's uncle is the jeweler that made it for us and he resized me at Thanksgiving and said my finger went down 2.5 sizes.

Did you know that many OTC allergy medicines cause weight gain?

Exercise music - what are you listening to?
Anything with a good beat. But lately a lot of LMFAO, Lady Gaga, Rhianna, Daft Punk, etc...
