Started in 99 or 2000 in an attempt to lose weight and to get stronger. I was a weak 220 pounds and within 6 months I got down to about 160 pounds. I've been addicted ever since.

Mid section
Core exercises are the worst exercises for that since they burn minimal calories. You need to reduce body fat by consuming less energy than you expend. Keep protein high and do resistance training. Core exercises are great for reducing the chance of injury and they may help build some muscle so that when you reach a low bodyfat your abs may be more prominent but that is it.

Ketosis
The only thing that can stall progress is too many calories. If anything, caffeine will help you since more energy equals more movement equals more calories used.

Why Overweight when calories in are less than calories used?
Simple, you're eating more than you think on average. You were not eating less than you expended which is how you became overweight. Abbadabba's post covers it well.
