About me .. hmmm. Well I am 46 years old and have always had 'one of those' shapes. You know the ones where the few extra pounds would always wind up in the right place? About a year ago, I noticed that I did not like what I saw in photos, my son always said. 'Mom you are NOT fat!'. God love him. I immediately started on an exercise program and quickly dropped about 4 pant sizes (even with the junk in the trunk).

Fast forward to now a year later. I quit smoking and became more sedentary due to school and work I woke up one morning and took a trip out of town with my son. As we were packing, I asked my son to toss a pair of jeans into my bag for me. In the bathroom.. Wiggling and jumping and finally convinced that he had accidently put a pair of his (beanpole thin) jeans in by mistake, I whipped them off disappointed that I would have to find something else. Ready to fuss, I pulled out the tag and realized that not only were they MY jeans, they were my FAT jeans! The Horror! Keep in mind, these jeans had gotten so big that I did not wear them for fear of shooting the moon (even with a belt) everytime I bent over, or having them fall down completely without a belt.

When I got home I immediately downloaded the calorie counter app to my smartphone and started counting. I was still in denial as I was sure it was only ten pounds so I fudged the initial weigh in by 20. Horror of horrors, when I finally dug the scale out it was 40 pounds.

That's when I knew I had to do something. I suffer from RA and know that being in shape by getting exercise can help the symptoms. I am here for the long haul.

LOL, the amount of calories a person burns is nothing to worry about as long as you are eating a sufficent amount of calories. This differs for everyone. Each person can burn different amount of calories and it be appropriate. It depends on your age, weight, height, goal weight and activity level. You can google to find your safe amount.

Ah ha!!! And here is the daily conundrum.... If your activity level says you should be eating 2200 calories (active) to lose weight but you only eat 1700 and have a total deficit of 3100 with exercise, a difference of about 1400 calories, at what point are you setting yourself up for that dreaded 'Oh well you won't feed me more so I will make more efficient fat stores' signal from your body?

LOL!!!

So wait: If I were to eat 1500 calories and burn 3500, would that be bad?

LOL! I'm wondering the same thing. My daily calorie deficit averages about 1100. I started eating more the past few days afraid of the dredged ' fat storage'. Funny thing is, I am eating WAY more than I did before I started this. Trying not to get back into that one meal a day habit.

It's 8pm here but too hot to eat so haven't really had anything since a big breakfast. Gonna go force feed myself a pork chef salad in a bit. I cannot go the day on 900 calories.
