I am a 73 year old wife, mother of 4, grandmother of 16 and great-grandmother of 18.

I live in a rural area of North western Kansas and have a bad back as well as neuropathy in both feet. My shattered left elbow has shortened my reach and I am unable to straighten the arm completely. I have been diagnosed with Diabetes and the insulin I need to take plays havoc with my weight loss plans. With the neuropathy I am unable to walk or be on my feet for long or I am in pain all night long.

Seems like just about any prescription medication puts weight on me. I want to get rid of all the pills and shots. It can be done, and I can do it.

I am from a long line of meat eaters. I crave meat and when I cannot get it I eat uncontrollably. I also need to watch what veggies I can eat as I am sensitive to the sugar content and it really spikes my blood sugar readings.
Fruits are out except for when I am having a rare low. I love fruits hmmm oh well.
Funny but I can put a tablespoon of a homemade fruit syrup in a gallon pitcher of iced green tea and get the flavor, and sweetness without a spike.
As to the walking I am just doing what I can. The longer spurts are when we have to get out and about. Sometimes when I am at Walmart and know I will be doing a lot of walking I will get the motorized cart. I feel so silly and think that people are judging me when I am in it, so I only do that rarely.
Bonita, the walking I do is in spurts. I put the pedometer on and that is the total walking for the day. This includes walking from my chair to the bathroom. I live in a small home with a partially finished basement (which I cannot get to because of the steps, I get dizzy spells and the steps are moving). My biggest goal is to be able to go downstairs without fear of falling.

We have farmers markets here, as I live in a rural/small town area. Still when budget is extremely tight I have to do with what I can find. Our grocery store is much smaller than "big cities", so of course prices are much higher as well, but our social security check is the same as everyone elses.

Farmers markets haven't started yet so I am at the mercy of the stores for a little while yet.

Did manage to get 60 pounds of pork sausage from a friend who had to butcher more than their freezer would hold so will be incorporating that into our mostly meatless meals.

Am looking forward to my tomato plants giving me fresh tomatos and some spaghetti squash later this summer. I have to garden in tubs as cannot bend over (dizzy spells) to do regular gardening.

Also most processed foods have sugars added to them as well as lots of sodium.

I try to stay away from processed foods as much as I can but the week or so before payday really sucks on my diet. That is when I have to really fight things. Hubby doesn't help much as he can eat anything he wants and can stay active so junky foods are in the house.

Thank you for your suggestions as well and keep them coming. Maybe you guys will see something I am missing and can help me fix things.

I have been eating good and my glucose numbers have been fair with only 1 spike over 150 although my goal is every test under 120. This is a real challenge for me so push me when you see I need it.

Welcome Cleta, If you don't mind i'd like to make a few suggestions re your food intake. You only have one day logged in so what I would do is change the white bread for a whole grain that would give you more nutrition without the sugar and sodium that white bread contains.

If you can eat more natural foods instead of processed like that soup which is very high in sodium you might see a little more weight loss from the water retention that happens with sodium.

I see you like heavy cream in your coffee, have you ever tried coconut oil? It has more health benefits and is a 'good' fat , maybe try a little cream with a little coconut oil to start.

Very Happy

Thank you for your input. Keep up the suggestions.
This meal was before our monthly grocery shopping. This was what I had on hand.

The menu will be better this next check in time.

I alternate between coconut yummies made from coconut oil and the heavy cream. I use the cream only as a special treat when I have it.

I do not have a problem with salt I do not retain the fluids. I have dizzy spells and my doctor has told me to use it as much as I want.

Thank you again for your suggestions. Keep me on my toes on this.

I have a pedometer now. I have safety pinned it to my waistband. Today I walked 611 steps so far. Going to keep going until close to midnight when I get to go to bed. Have a med I need to take at midnight so gotta stay up till then.
