I am a 38 year old mother of 2 teenagers. I was thin growing up. Gained weight with my first child and then gained even more with my second. I am historically a world famous quitter when it comes to losing weight. Started dieting in August and have done pretty well so far. Longest I have stuck to anything. I started at 221 lb (wow, that's embarrassing). I am now 180 lbs. I started at a size 20 and I bought 4 pairs of pants the other day at a size 14. So ... on my way to 140 lbs.

I just wanted to say thanks to 4theking and everybody else here for posting this. What terrific discussions this post started! There is so much to learn, why aren't they teaching nutrition in schools!?!

I am a pre-k teacher and I do a theme unit on nutrition and exercise but that only goes so far with 4 year olds. I totally agree that it should be taught all the way through school. Kids learn their eating habits by how food is eaten in the home and based on the statistics Americans are getting bigger and bigger. School programs are a perfect way to counteract and get rid of those bad eating habits taught at home (that and not allowing your kids to have those stupid video games, I say that as I sit on my butt and read blogs and type on the computer ... lol).
