Question, I know they say that breastfeeding burns 500 calories a day but for when is this true? My daughter is 6 months old and eats 3 meals a day but also nurses all day, am I still burning 500 calories or was this only when she was a month old and ONLY breatfeeding?

I'm sorry I do not have an answer, but I have read sooo many different things about calorie burning and BFing. I've read 200-800 cals a day. I just add 300 to my exercise log as I don't want to over do the amount and eat more than I'm actually burning.

I've found through my research that breastfeeding burns about 20 kcal per ounce produced... That's harder to figure out if you're nursing, but since I pump part of the day that part is easier for me to determine Smile

your body generally produces 1 oz an hour around the clock, so for those that don't pump, go w/ that.

i don't think i am burning any calories breastfeeding. My body is hanging on to my saddlebags like they are a lifeline or something.

My midwife told me not to go crazy about the last 10-15 lbs I want to lose. She said as long as I continue breastfeeding that last amount of weight won't come off.
